In regard to the US vs Arizona lawsuit. I hope (well maybe not) someone in the Justice Department realizes that if you are in state and local law enforcement, or the National Guard you swear a commissioning oath to “Protect the Constitution and the Laws of the country”. If the lawyers get their way to say that investigating immigrants is exclusively federal jurisdiction; that means that no one in law enforcement is required to enforce any federal law and since most state and local laws are in compliance with federal law. Anarchy anyone?
The Sierra Club should be at the forefront of this debate. But according to the LA Times, David Gelbaum bought them off for $100 million. According to the story that appeared in October 2004, “I did tell Carl Pope [Sierra Club Executive Director] in 1994 or 1995 that if they ever came out anti-immigration, they would never get a dollar from me.”
