“Jewkes believes South Africa’s history of racial division and associated trauma is part of the reason of the high incidence of sexual violence in the country.
“Apartheid has contributed to culture of impunity surrounding rape in South Africa,” said Jewkes. Men who were abused or experienced trauma during their childhood are much more likely to rape, she said, adding that apartheid destroyed family life, fostering violence and anti-social behavior.”

I suppose this explains why the rest of the African continent is such a virtual paradise.

I was remarking on the reasons for Huntley’s overturned refugee status, period, not seeking to malign the man. Referring to him as a bit of a chancer is not synonymous with calling him “not a very nice guy”. On television Huntley comes over as being a very nice guy indeed.

I simply believe the appeal court ruled correctly under the circumstances. He destroyed his case when he admitted that he had come to Canada to find work, which he had been unable to in South Africa (as opposed to only wanting to escape physical persecution).

Huntley had it all done and dusted until he chose to go public. My point was that had he stayed below the radar none of this would have happened. The ANC wouldn’t have known or cared less if it had, and ditto for the Canadian government.

I wish I had a deeper observation on the subject but I’m afraid that “fools” pretty well covers it.

Interestingly, I just read this one today: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/11/27/study-south-african-men-admit-committing-rape/?cmpid=prn_baynote-js_Study_One_in_Three_South_African_Men_Admit_to_Committing_Rape#

To admit that there is systematic, government-tolerated persecution of whites AS A GROUP in SA would bring down the whole edifice of Mandela-worship that so many people help build. Can’t do that, not here, not now. But people’s views are shifting, at least those expressed outside of Canadian mainstream media. There is hope.

Although there were some that were English-speaking, the cultural and commercial districts were essentially in ruins-riddled with artillery damage. Something that would not lend to the thought that there were many educated Somalis remaining in country.
