Barbarians are known for lack of discipline which gradually infected the strong Roman legions but not enough to to destroy them. Also lack of protecting the borders caused much mayhem in the empire. However, Christianity was the real nail in the coffin, destroying the very foundations of Roman and Greecian philosophy, history and integrity. Christianity closed down, destroyed all antique art, science, architecture, resulting in the Dark Ages. Julian attempted a reversal but it was too little too late as Christianity dominated the government and oppressed Paganism. Christianity supports all manner of destruction of what made the West great.
