America's Open House

America, IMMIGRATION

“Immigration fundamentalist Tamar Jacoby squints at flesh-and-blood Americans; to her, America is a mere proposition, nothing but an idea. She dismissed Quintero’s illegality as irrelevant to his crime. But for that conceit to fly, Jacoby would have to show that had Quintero been deported or jailed, his victims would have nevertheless suffered the same fate at the hands of another murderer and child molester—a deeply silly suggestion.

Indeed, the Jacobins of unfettered immigration present a consistently weak case against enforcement (and for laundering illegals). If it’s not argumentum ad misericordiam (the logical fallacy of an appeal to pity); it’s fatalism—as when they assert that enforcing the law is futile: “If illegals want to get in, they’ll get in.”

Consider an equally fatalistic parent who leaves the doors to the family home permanently wide open. Why postpone the inevitable, he waffles? If scofflaws were scheming to Elizabeth Smart his daughter or help themselves to his possessions, they’d find a way in, eventually. That this hippie holds an open house soon becomes known around the hood, and the inevitable happens. Can the parent argue in good conscience and logic that the robbery, abduction, rape, or murder of his dependents was unavoidable?

It’s getting harder and harder for America’s policy proxies—politicians, pundits and police—to finesse their criminal negligence and breach of duty.”

Updated: ‘Patriotism, Nationhood, & The American Indian’

America, Ann Coulter

Dr. David Yeagley is a Comanche Indian from Oklahoma, educated at Oberlin, Yale, Emory, Hartt, and the University of Arizona. (He was a special student at Harvard in 1982). He has invited several nationally known conservative and independent writers to offer their perspective on American Indians. His interview with me, here at the Free-Market News Network, is titled “Patriotism, Nationhood, & The American Indian,” and is the first in the planned series.

Update: The interview has now been posted on Dr. Yeagley’s website, BadEagle.com, which means that responses from the American Indian community have been forthcoming. You can follow these here and here—indeed the good folks at BadEagle.com are hip to my deficiencies vis-Ã -vis the law and Indian reservations. In my defense I’ll say that I was asked by Dr. Yeagley to respond spontaneously, not research. That’s what I did.
I am told that Ann Coulter has expressed interest in the topic. That’s a good thing, as Martha Stewart would say.

Fun in Kazakhstan

America, Britain, Bush, Film, Pop-Culture

Sasha Baron Cohen, alias Ali G, is a British comedian and the creator of Borat, “a bumbling Kazakh TV presenter.” Borat’s exploits in the US are something to behold. Simply brilliant comedy, as in the time he asked a dating agency for a woman with plowing experience. Or when he sang his country’s anthem at an American sports match. The mournful wail went on for at least 20 minutes. His American spectators, bless them, were very patient. And what about “throw the Jew down the well“? That’s the infectious sing-along Borat began in a Texas bar. A classic.

By having fun at Kazakhstan’ expense, Borat (who has quite the bottom, if I say so myself) has created an international incident. Read how George Bush might get involved.
