BAB used to buzz. We used to have a broad community of engaged, Barely a Blog participants. One of the reasons they were lost was due to a a useless web-developer, out of Oregon: nasty, bossy and shoddy. She disrespected my knowledge of my audience, told me what to do, assumed knowledge of my online universe and of my readers. And promptly insisted on closing off comment engagement so as to reduce spam. People would come every day, weigh in, and had even formed bonds. A community that Christy Kiltz broke.

I am disagreeably surprised at how little comment engagement I see here.

I, too, briefly had hopes for RFK Jr, until he signed on with the Bibi Brigade. To Hell with him.

As an American, I consider that the very best contribution that the US could make to a peaceful Middle East would be to get the hell out of it, and to immediately cease all forms of aid to Israel, or to any other state for that matter. Absolutely no arms sales either, to anyone. As long as I’m dreaming, close all military bases on foreign soil, anywhere in the world. Reduce the size of the US military establishment to what is necessary to defend actual US territory, which would mean about a 90% reduction. The few remaining in the new, reduced military would be exclusively male and heterosexual, and IQ testing would be used to make the final cut. Then assign the new, reduced military a new, reduced mission: securing the borders of the US, starting (obviously) with the Mexican border. No one crosses north, and those attempting to do so would be greeted with gunfire. Then we could go to work on deporting the aliens already among us.

Yeah, I’m dreaming.

Peace in the Middle East is about world peace. I had hoped Kennedy, Jr. would see and support such a connection. There is little time for a shift in this 2024 race. Much depends on one’s courage and honesty.

So they just want to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. They’re like our own political system: the Stupid Party versus the Evil Party. People get behind one or the other with all the same thoughtfulness as a fan choosing which football team he’ll support. They don’t care who’s getting crushed, so long as their team is the one that’s scoring the touchdowns. Or dropping the bombs.

ilana, I know this must be hard for you to witness, but you’re doing some of your best work ever. Looking forward to your foreign policy book.

The world is in terrible shape. Things are really spinning out of control, and not just in the Near East. I know of no single country in the world that is doing well. Things may have reached the point where there is nothing that we can do and the only solution is that the Pope and the Catholic bishops follow the request of Our Lady of Fatima and consecrate Russia to Our Lady of Fatima. This request was made in 1929 but still has not been done. Apparently the popes and the bishops have had more important things on their mind, though it is not clear what those might be. The good news is that we know that the consecration will be done and a new era of peace, freedom, and prosperity will dawn around the world. Let’s hope that the politicians don’t blow us all up in the meantime.
