I think the Supreme Court decision was on point, insofar as the right to privacy, the right to be left alone, is so vague that any five Supreme Court Justices can invoke it for any social policy they think would be good. They thereby transform the Court into a de facto legislative body, since it is no longer constrained by Constitutional limitation. On the other hand, the fact that a social policy cannot be justified by the Constitution does not make it a bad social policy; a social policy can be pragmatically justified even if it cannot be justified as a lofty Constitutional right. Pragmatically, women are going to keep getting pregnant and having abortions, so it would be good social policy to supply clean and competent abortionists. Society need not encourage and glorify “a woman’s right to choose,” but some realism is in order.
As an analogy, we don’t make trauma centers illegal because we don’t approve of people drinking and having auto accidents. People are going to drink and regret the consequences; women are going to have unprotected sex, forced or voluntary, and regret the consequences.

I submit that the Republican partisans are not stupid. There are confused. Confusion and stupidity are not the same thing though the actions of both seem very similar and the results practically identical. After DJT I never under estimate the charade the Republicans put on or the confusion they sow to seem different than their opponents. I think what sets them apart is not stupidity, or ignorance but confusion as they flail around trying to show they are different. It is their confusion that sets them apart from the Democrats. But together the uni-party gets the job done.

Establishment Republicans really don’t care which party wins as long as they hold onto their positions of power. The Republican Party is, at best, just another wing of the socialist internationale aka the Deep State and they have no real interest in supporting the real conservatives in their own party. Mitch McConnell recently told us that much in so many words.
