About the other thing: I don’t know about Turkey or Kurdistan but among the Arabs marriages between first cousins are acceptable and common. Can’t be too healthy in the long term, I would think.

When I was working in the Kingdom I learned that marriage is very expensive, unless you marry your cousin.

Saudi’s assured me they had no birth defects because they were such clean livers. My suspicion was that babies with obvious defects didn’t see the light of day.

Interestingly, a teacher who taught computer skills said a fair number of his students appeared to be at least slightly dyslexic – they couldn’t get “right click/left click.” (He solved the problem by painting their fingernails with blue and red nail polish and teaching “blue click/red click.)
