Nobody can follow these trails because the stink bombs all along the way are designed to throw one off. I really believe these things are worked out years before Joe the taxpayer ever knows anything about them (like the patriot act) and then taken off the shelf and imposed upon us when the opportune time presents itself — a financial debacle, a national tragedy performed with box cutters and suicidal maniacs, or a changing of the duopoly guard by some sex scandal, check writing scandal, corruption charges or “change you can believe in” etc. It is hard to know anymore who or what is acting as the Wizard of OZ in Washington. They certainly don’t seem to care about the ordinary citizens opinion or they would learn to speak and write in understandable tones instead of tomes.

It took me a while but I read all the sections you posted and understood most of them except sec. 2541 entitled Limitation on Federal Funds.
I would propose an amendment to this section submitted by my friend, Rep. Myron Pauli from the reality state, Barely a Blog. It would read: “Trillions of dollars will be spent, printed, or committed at the whim of the Secretary of the Treasury or the Federal Reserve in complete secrecy. RULES?? – WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ RULES!!!”

[Judge, can you explain these amendments to us?! Who can follow this manure!]

I would just like to thank W, not for the bringing democracy to Iraq, but for bringing health care reform to the USA.

Yes, it was Bush whose unpopular war cost the republicans both houses of congress in 2006. One might argue that the elections of 2008 were a result of the recession, but without 2006, the democrats would probably not have complete control over the Senate and their House margin would be smaller. How many republican senators, who lost in 2006, would have been safe in 2008 and therefore would have given them the mythical 40 seat filibuster? (See Claire McCaskill unseating Jim Talent in Missouri for an example.)

So thank you W. Seven years on Iraq is a spanking democracy, and we are about to get a top notch health care system.

You people are just like those who opposed Social Security, Medicaid, Prescriptions drug benefits, No Child Left Behind, The Department of Education, the IRS, endless American interventions in the Middle East and now national health care!! The next thing you know, you will be opposing the freedom we helped spread to South Africa!!

My father told of an appliance dealer he once worked for who would sometimes get a call from an acquaintance shopping for a TV or washer. The person was coming down to the store to buy. The dealer would then put out new price signs at higher values. When the “friend” came in to buy, the dealer would give him a discount from the posted price. The customer would then go home believing he had saved money from his “friend” who gave him a special deal.

If you raise the cost of something by a trillion dollars and then cut the cost over 10 years by $100 billion, you have not cut costs by $100 billion — you have increased costs by $900 billion. You can only balance the budget by taxing to the tune of $900 billion. Is that a good deal? Does it even feel like a good deal? Are we going home satisfied of having gotten a good deal from our “friend”? Why is it that every time Washington “helps” us, we feel like having a cigarette afterward?

There’s more wizardry at work in DC than ever there was in King Arthur’s Court. Welcome to Camelot.

America holds Jose Padilla, an unarmed citizen captured on the Chicago “battlefield”, without habeas corpus for 4 years. The Patriot Act gets renewed by voice vote as an addendum to a medical funding bill. The Supreme Court says that a farmer feeding wheat to his horse or a chemo patient growing and smoking dope in her home interferes with interstate commerce. The Supreme Court says that public school children can be coerced to submit drug samples without probable cause and that American citizens can be shipped off for years in internment camps without probable cause based on their ancestry. CONSTITUTION – what constitution????

First one votes on a bill without reading it and later one can read an altered version without voting on it. Trillions of dollars get spent, printed, or committed at the whim of the Secretary of the Treasury or the Federal Reserve in complete secrecy. RULES?? – WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ RULES!!!

You wrote a good article. Here is one by Robert Higgs:

Lies, under the table deals, changing the rules on the fly and so on ad nauseum. These clowns have been wrestling with this thing for a year with no opposition possible due to numbers of votes. Now they expect us to buy the premise that they will spend a trillion dollars, (our money) and we will save money. This whole thing is unbelievable. They are incompetent. They lie. They are trying to take over the country without firing a shot. What’s a real tragedy is the system needs to have less government interference not more. They are trying to do absolutely nothing to help the situation but rather to make it a tragic mess. No wonder the peasants are storming the castle. All we lack are torches and pitch forks and Washington will look like an old Frankenstein movie. Come to think of it, Frankenstein would fit in well with our government.
