Truly dangerous and truly fanatical. I highly recommend Srdja Trifkovic’s recent piece over at Chronicles for a very good run-down of the “twelver” school of Shiite theology he represents. The background Trifkovic provides here is very helpful in getting an idea of the ideology that drives this character, and his broad base of supporters in Iran.
