The internet has enabled some amazing information distribution. The best site that I have found for education on the ideals of liberty is The Online Library of Liberty at Liberty Fund (oll.libertyfund.org). They have over 1000 books from across history, all for free. I download them to my Sony Reader and read away.

JP: I would recommend either a Sony Reader or B&N Nook. The Kindle locks you into getting all of your content through Amazon as they do not support the epub standard. If you are interested in the site I mentioned above, Gutenberg Project, or Google Books (all free) you will want something the reads epub.
