Albie Sachs also was a prominent Jewish opponent of apartheid who almost died for his beliefs, and after Mandela assumed office sat on the South African Supreme Court.

Finally among the business community, De Beers, controlled by the Oppenheimers were leading opponents of apartheid.

The two South African Jews I’ve met were rabidly pro-apartheid, while the SA gentiles seemed rather dough-brained on the issue. Even the ones who still live in SA don’t seem to think there are any serious problems with crime or white victimization. Statistics seem to suggest otherwise. The denial is worryingly reminiscent of that in the US.

I wonder what happened to Yutar after the fall of Afrikaner rule? The most likely scenario is that he moved to Israel. [I think he’s dead.] Richard Goldstone was also a an apartheid era jurist (he even gave out death sentences – probably for “necklacing”). I guess that explains his rabid desire to appease his new Xhosa masters by wailing about Israeli treatment of the Palestinians.
