To evoke W. H. Auden’s reflections in Letters from Iceland, what “… an extraordinary vision of the cold controlled ferocity of the human species.”
“BBC News: “The village of Taldou, near the town of Houla in Syria’s Homs province was the scene of one of the worst massacres in the country’s 14-month-long uprising on Friday. United Nations observers on the ground have confirmed that at least 108 people were killed, including 49 children and 34 women. Some were killed by shell fire, others appear to have been shot or stabbed at close range. But at whose hands they died remains a matter of contention. …”
What little I’ve read and my gut feel is that there aren’t any real good guys in this battle in Syria. If I’m wrong Ilana I’m willing to be set straight!
Nothing coming out of Syria, as refracted by the US MSM, is to be believed. Isramerica seeks to break the Shia Crescent by overthrowing Assad – via the Sunni Moslem Brotherhood and Al-Queda – and the “press” parrots the regime line. In any case, I expect that events in Syria are about to be overtaken by the IranWar, then a much larger mid-East, Intra-American, and global conflagration: we’ll be lucky to get out of this short of WW III. The Middle East is the New Balkans.
The two “factions” in any Middle East civil war remind me of two skunks in a pissing contest. American leadership, both civilian and military, are perpetually clueless. Of all the dumb things we have done putting troops on the ground, or air, in Syria would rank high on the list. We should get out of the Middle east and better yet we should get the Middle East out of the United States.
Eat a felafel and leave Syria the hell to its own devices!
I don’t have a dog in that fight.
Of course, while the US (and Israel) does stupid things, one can take this over the cliff as Paul Craig Roberts typically does:

The US is the 2nd worse violator of human rights and Israel is the worst!! What the hell is that jerk going off on – where does North Korea, Somalia, Cuba, Syria, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Saudi Arabia – on some roll of honor. Sadly, it is that hysterical nonsense that I find embarrasses legitimate criticism of American policy!
