Update III: Haiti's Hurting, What's New? (Rotting Roadblocks)

Haiti is forever convulsed by political or natural disasters. The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, where four out of five people live in poverty and more than half in abject poverty (NYT), was struck by a massive, magnitude-7.0 earthquake, on Tuesday afternoon.

The rescuers, spokespersons, geological surveyors and geophysicists; the missionaries, medicine- and military men and women; the aid-deliverers—most are Westerners. Western countries prop up their Third-World creations. That’s how it is.

In the aftermath of the Asian tsunami, the gravest danger was an epidemic; the greatest danger in the wake of the Haiti disaster is a crime wave worse than before.

The Big O is promising to devote—and divert—all the resources he has no right to toward the rescue effort in Haiti.

I say “YES TO US AID, NO TO USAID”:

Americans are the most generous people on earth. “The extent and the depth of charitable giving” in the US is such that “the average donation in the U.S. is three-and-a-half times more than in Canada.” As a percentage of their aggregate income, Americans give more to charity than citizens of any other country. BO will go ahead and “pledge” a puny few hundred million to Haiti on behalf of a people that gave $241 billion to charity in 2003.

American largess makes the United States Agency for International Development, and other the compassionate pickpockets, as unnecessary as it is unethical.

Update I (Jan. 14): Since Haitians are now refugees and candidates for Minute-Maid immigration, it takes an immigration hawk to highlight the following: Haitians, by and large, speak Creole. Their faith is more Black Magic than Roman Catholic. Thoroughly schooled in violence, Haitians are, at the same time, utterly uneducated, although not in the ways of the world – they’ve been ravaged by AIDS-HIV, and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Update II: “The liberal West honestly believes that bad leaders are what shackle backward peoples.” In this context, how often have you heard that Haiti is what it is because of bad leadership; a deficit in democracy, on and on? Lo: a veteran disaster relief specialist told CNN that the current “serious crime problem” was less of an issue under Papa Doc’s “nasty dictatorship,” when “lots of people were killed. But infrastructure and services worked better then than they do now.”

“It was safer to use public transport then than it was last year, certainly in terms of crime,” he said. “Over the last 10, 15, 20 years, the gangs and the drug culture have taken hold of Haiti …”

Is it possible that a dictatorship—preferably a benevolent one, but never-the-less an authoritarian regime—might work better in certain cultures than a tyranny of the majority? Perish the thought.

Update III: Barbarism. “ANGRY Haitians set up roadblocks with corpses in Port-au-Prince to protest at the delay in emergency aid reaching them after a devastating earthquake.” Shaul Schwarz, a photographer for TIME magazine, is understanding:

Updated: Contemptible Chris Calls For Profiling

Ten years too late, Chris Matthews voices discomfort with America’s airport insanity, where “old women and old men are taken out of their wheelchairs, having to do this Lord’s Walk for about 20 yards to prove that they can walk. It’s insane.”

The Johnnie-come-lately anchor of “Hardball” asked for common sense, as deployed by the Israelis (again; ten years too late): “And then you hear about this guy who raises all the red flags and the walks right through. Why to we put up with this? Is this going to come down to profiling?”

Bush, we presume, is aware of the shared characteristics that distinguish Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, Khalid al-Mihdhar, Nawaf al-Hazmi, Mohammed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Ziad Jarrah, Hani Hanjour (all of the 9-11 “fame”); Mohammad Sidique Khan, Hasib Mir Hussain, and Shehzad Tanweer (of 7-7); Ayman al-Zawahiri’s and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (Bin Laden’s Capo Bastones).

If not, his security detail knows “Muslims proportionately commit more airline hijackings and suicide bombings than non-Muslims.” The taxpayer-funded security squads watching over our legislators certainly do not confine their protective efforts to frisking old ladies.

Yet the Bush administration has severely punished airlines “whose pilots have refused to carry Muslim men whom they regard as a security risk.” The Department of Transportation—and resentful Muslim advocacy groups—has no qualms about continually suing airlines for attempting to put the safety of passengers first.

“Compiling a composite of the criminals most likely to hijack an airline or blow up a building isn’t hard. … The menace faced is invariably from ‘young Muslim men of North African, Middle Eastern and South Asian origin.’ … officials keep telling the believing ‘Boobus Americanus’ that safety lies in pretending everyone is equally weighted in his propensity to blow up an airplane. If we were on the lookout for an abortion clinic saboteur, would we be patting down Islamists, or Southern Baptist survivalists? In every other whodunit, behavioral scientists attempt to construct a criminal profile of the suspect. In the case of Islamic terrorism, however, the state won’t even use the compelling evidence it has.”

Update (Dec. 29): SMILE; YOU’RE BEING STRIPPED. Is it to be “rational profiling” or this strip-search (courtesy of Drudge)? We know the answer, as well as we know our overlords.

Decapitation & Diversity

As was observed in “The Misery Of Diversity,” “the ethnic engineering historic populations have suffered at the hands of soviet-style [immigration] planners dwarfs compared to the long term benefits of mass, Third-World immigration,” namely “the collective gains of cheap Tyson chicken and colorful cuisine.”

And, apparently, so too does decapitation, as a diverse way to die, have a certain je ne sais quoi.

According to CNN, Haiyang Zhu, 26, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder (by decapitation) of Xin, 22, from Beijing. With no warning or argument, Haiyang, a native of Ningbo, China, took out a kinife he had purchased and took off Xin’s head at the Au Bon Pain restaurant in the university’s Graduate Life Center on January 21.

Both were Chinese. The one was in love with the other. She did not return his affections. When persuasion fails, there is always decapitation.

Virginia Tech campus authorities are famous for the “laissez faire and leniency” with which they dealt with mass murderer Seung-Hui Cho, whose case I chronicled in “EVIL, NOT ILL.”

Canada had its own decapitator-cum-cannibal, Vince Weiguang Li. Then, as now, the chronically incurious media neglected to dig up information about the belief system that mediated the perp’s barbarism. (The Canadian criminal injustice system charged Li with second degree murder–unpremeditated murder–rather than First.)
