Is Israel Done For?

Britain, Israel, Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim, Politics

I suspect Joseph Farah is right; Israel is a lost cause. It is now a thoroughly left-liberal, post-Zionist society, bereft of a sense of the goodness of its history and institutions. Its secondary and tertiary schools have adopted the evil Palestinian and radical Left propaganda as Bible from Sinai.
In many ways, Israel is not unlike Britain, which forfeited the Whig interpretation of history in favor of a negative view of the nation’s past and liberal institutions. Or the United States: it too has come to reduce its founding to a narrative of the oppressed and the excluded.
Israelis now accept that they must expiate for—rather than celebrate—the “miraculous revival of an old people in a spirit of humanism and freedom, on a barren piece of land,” to quote Walter Laquer.
I was overcome with similar sentiments to Joseph Farah’s after recently reestablishing contact with “girls” I grew up with in Israel. The one, a pedagogue, tells me sans shame that her daughter refuses to study Hebrew in high school (apparently she is accorded such an option.). The girl also refuses to be identified as a Jew in her identity document. She confuses a show of hatred for her culture—language and religion—with a sign of sophistication and individualism, not realizing that hers is the herd’s position. These days deracinated liberalism is the norm—it takes courage to be a proud Jew. The girl comes from a fine family of pioneers.
Another friend, a single woman with a doctorate in math, also from an admirable family, is a rank leftist, who berates Bibi (Netanyahu) for having freed up the Israeli economy considerably during his tenure, and for retaliating against Palestinian barbarism. Turn the other cheek is her motto.
What worries is not so much the policy of this or the other Israeli administration. I expect little from politicians. Given the views my friends express, I worry, as Joseph Farah does, that the “people—themselves fail to discern right from wrong.”

Uncommon Daydreams (Or Lying Left-Liberals)

Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim

In his column, “Axis of Fanatics—Netanyahu and Ahmadinejad,” Norman Solomon of Common Dreams surmises that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Bibi Netanyahu are cut from the same cloth because:
The Iranian president 1) threatened to destroy Israel and then 2) accelerated Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
The Israeli politician, in turn, promised to defend Israel against Ahmadinejad’s final solution.
Norman is without Solomonic wisdom; he can’t even compare like with like.
We all agree that Cold-War deterrence is best. But what if one’s enemy is undeterred?
Solomon’s solution is as dumb as Wikipedia’s. The wickedly stupid online encyclopedia had expressed confidence in the Islamic Republic’s “constitutional” separation of powers: Ahmadinejad hasn’t the authority to declare war on Israel—only Iran’s Supreme Leader has, it has suggested.
Likewise, Solomon thanks his lucky stars that Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, has shifted power from Mad Mahmoud (Ahmadinejad) to the governmental Expediency Council headed by “the shady,” yet “moderate, magnate” Hashemi Rafsanjani.
As I divulged in Satan’s Little Helpers, Ahmadinejad is not the first Iranian ruler to promise atomic retribution against Israel; Hashemi Rafsanjani is. That’s right, Mr. Solomon’s “moderate magnate” said the following:

If one day … the world of Islam is mutually equipped with the kind of weapons Israel presently possesses, the world’s arrogant strategy will then come to a dead end, because the use of an atomic bomb on Israel won’t leave anything; however in the world of Islam [use of a bomb] will just cause harm, and this scenario is not far fetched.”

Give Peace A Makeover

Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim, War

Cindy Sheehan has blamed the media for retarding the peace movement in the United States. But according to “The Babe Theory of Political Movements,” which Sheehan should study closely, the peace movement has a problem: it’s ugly. The media doesn’t forgive ugly. If Sheehan wants to give peace a chance, she’ll need to give it a makeover. A disheveled woman with leathery skin and a dopey inflection is not going to get the attention she craves.”

The excerpt is from my new FrontPageMagazine column, Give Peace A Makeover. Comments are welcome.

Thanks to Frank for sending a link to “Breasts Not Bombs.” The pictorial is a study in how truly ugly the antiwar Left is, body and mind. To assault others with such impropriety strikes me as passive-aggression. Warning: You’ll need multiple barf bags.

The Antiwar Radical Left

Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim, War

Could there be a more incoherent and contemptible coalition than the one that convened to protest the war in Iraq? Hardly. No self-respecting libertarian (especially the rightists among us) would be caught dead among a crowd of cheering faux revolutionary socialists and other malcontents, many of whom are probably in the country illegally, judging from their English, or lack thereof.

Speakers for A.N.S.W.E.R, which stands for Act Now to Stop War & End Racism, were Al Sharpton, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and representatives from the United Farm Workers of America, the Alliance for a Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines, the Socialist Front of Puerto Rico, the Nicaragua Network, the Community Labor Union of New Orleans, Mexicanos Sin Fronteras (?), the Teamsters Black Caucus, and a lone Palestinian activist claiming to have been “framed cointelpro-style,” whatever that means. That decent Americans have jobs to attend may explain why none was seen for miles on end. No, these are not the natural allies of libertarians. Would that there was a respectable, antiwar movement libertarians could get behind, but there isn’t.
