Rudderless Republicans: An “All-Male Version of the View”

The Southern Avenger, AKA Jack Hunter of Taki’s Magazine, is consistently fabulous. An added bonus is that he narrates his column in a lovely Southern lilt. Here, The Southern Avenger talks about how rudderless Republicans are flailing about to find “something” with which to beat the Democrats. For instance, the gem Jeb Bush has offered up: “It’s time to leave Reagan behind,” and, “You can’t beat something with nothing. The other side has something. I don’t like it, but they have it, and we have to be mindful and respectful of that.” Want this wombat in power?

If one believes in liberty like Ron Paul, you try to fight for those beliefs and convert allies when you can. That means a small number of Democrats, a larger number of independents, and even a slice of Republicans. However, I don’t think Ron Paul or Jack Hunter believe that the Romney Bush Graham McCain (and until recently Specter) Republican party is actually going to embrace limited government. The Republicans are the party of Federal Supremacist Lincoln, Imperialist Teddy Roosevelt, Internationalist Eisenhower, Fascistic Nelson Rockefeller, Paranoid Nixon, Feckless Warmonger Dubya, and Torturer Cheney. Yes, a few libertarian thoughts have popped-up from time the time with a Goldwater and a Reagan and with Ron Paul – but these are small threads in a largely corrupt and statist machine. Since one needs to make allies, you go into the brothels of statism to preach to the political whores and hope that a few see the light and sin no more.
