To Make Cops Love Communities They Police, Communities Ought To Be Lovely.

“To make us love our country, our country ought to be lovely.”—Edmund Burke, Reflections on the Revolution in France

A variation on Burke’s theme is what I get from the words of former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson: To make cops love the communities they police, the communities they police ought to be lovely. And indeed, Wilson seems to have found aspects of the rough community he policed lovely. But that’s not enough for his inquisitors.

CNN transcripts:

JOHN BERMAN: New this morning, former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson breaks his silence in a revealing new interview. The 29-year- old who shot and killed unarmed teenager, Michael Brown, tells “The New Yorker” he wanted to get back on the streets of Ferguson but was told he would be a liability. He says he can’t get another police job anywhere despite being cleared of any wrongdoing in Brown’s death.

KATE BOLDUAN: He also tells “The New Yorker” that he ended up working in Ferguson because policing black neighborhoods would be a good way to advance his career. He says this as well, “If you go there and do three to five years, get your experience, you can kind of write your own ticket.” And Wilson says he enjoyed his time on the force. He also is saying this, “I didn’t want to work in a white area. I like the black community. I had fun there. There’s people who will just crack you up.”

CNN’s Boris Sanchez is joining us, and Boris is taking a look at much more of this.

It’s a long and revealing interview.

BORIS SANCHEZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Certainly. He says quite a bit in there. One of the things you find out is he says he doesn’t think about Michael Brown. He hasn’t even read the Department of Justice report about the systemic racism in Ferguson. It’s really interesting because he kind of — the piece is meant to humanize him but, in a lot of ways, some of what he says brings up questions about his perspectives and his relations with the African-American community. At one point, he asks a fellow officer who helped train him for help in relating to some of the people in the community because he said he felt culture shock.

We’ll take a look at what he said. He asked Mike McCarthy, “Mike, I don’t know what I’m doing. This is a culture shock. Would you help me because you obviously have that connection, and you can relate to them? You may be white, but they respect you, so why can they respect you and not me?”

[11:15:26] Another thing Wilson says, as you mentioned, Kate, that he enjoyed policing in the African-American community because people there cracked him up. So he tries to paint this picture that he’s not a racist. At the same time, he goes on to say other things that many, including Michael Brown’s family, say kind of show that he has some prejudice. We’ll go to the other full screen now. He’s describing a blind mom in Ferguson apparently whose kids were running amok. He says they were causing trouble in the neighborhood. He said, “They ran all over the mom. They didn’t respect her, so why would they respect me?” He then goes on to say, “They’re so wrapped up in a different culture than — what I’m trying to say is the right culture, the better one to pick from.”

Now, the reporter wanted to find out if this was coded language, if this was somehow referring to race in kind of a subtle way. So the reporter pressed him. He said that Wilson struggled with an answer, going on to say, “Pre-gang culture where you’re just running in the streets, not worried about working in the morning, just worried about your immediate gratification.” And then he goes on to say, “It is the same younger culture that’s everywhere in the inner cities.”

Obviously, these quotes, the article, meant to humanize him, kind of bringing up more questions about his perspectives.

The presstitute are still gunning for Darren Wilson.

Joshua Wilkerson Tortured By DREAM Pal Hermilio Moralez

Crime, IMMIGRATION

Not that you’d know it from tuning in to CNN or MSNBC or CBS or ABC, but the Senate held another of its Brownian Motion hearings—to create the impression that its doing something to protect the people. Or, “dedicated to the families who lost loved ones thanks to illegal aliens,” as Breitbart puts it somewhat more hopefully. Particularly horrible was the demise of Joshua Wilkerson by an illegal alien with whom he “had been friends for at least five years,” and to whom Joshua had given a ride home from school.

Mom Laura Wilkerson is right. Unless the same is done to “a Senator, a Congressman, the President, even another of today’s heroes, someone from Hollywood”—nothing will come of the exercise.

Breitbart.com has the testimony of Ms. Wilkerson, prefacing the grisly autopsy details shared with an explanation:

Ms. Wilkerson’s son was murder by an illegal immigrant who, because he came to the country as a minor, would have qualified for Obama’s 2012 executive amnesty granted to illegal immigrant minors — or so-called DREAMers, whom Obama insists “belong here.”

Border patrol and immigration officials have explained that executive amnesty for illegal minors was, in large part, responsible for the surge of children coming across the border last summer.

Unlike most Western countries in which all foreign nationals illegally residing in the country are subject to immigration laws, in the United States, the left has effectively carved out a sector of the illegal immigrant population — illegal minors — who are exempt from immigration law. In so doing, the left has created a perpetual cycle of chain of amnesty– as evidenced by Obama’s 2014 amnesty in which he decided to suspend immigration laws for the parents of DREAMers.

Wilkerson read aloud portions of the gut-wrenching autopsy: “‘This body is received in a grey body bag. There’s a tag on his toe that bears the name, Joshua Wilkerson. This is a white male weighing a hundred pounds. He is tied up with braided rope — 13 loops around his neck in a slipknot. It goes behind his back through his back belt loop. It goes to his hands and his feet, behind his body. He has multiple fractures in his face and nasal cavity. His throat and his voicebox are crushed.’”

Wilkerson took a deep breath and continued, looking at the senators before her with a steady gaze. “He was kicked so hard in the stomach that it sent his spleen into his spine, and sliced it in two … The medical examiner said it was torture.”

She returned to the text of the autopsy: “‘This body has significant skin loss on his buttocks, his abdomen, his penis, his hands, and his face. He has one stick of gum and a tardy slip in his pocket.”

“This was our family’s 9/11 terrorist attack by a foreign invader, whether you want to recognize it or whether you do not,” Wilkerson said. “This government continues to fail or even recognize that we have an issue. Americans are dying daily at the hands of criminals that we don’t even know are here.”

“You’re officially notified today there’s a problem when this happens. You can’t deny it any longer. You cannot you cannot stand by and ignore our families — our American families. You’re elected by Americans, not any other country. You should be for Americans,” she emphasized. “If you want to sit quietly on the sidelines, you’ve thrown your hat into the ring already. Your silence speaks volumes. You’re either for Americans, or you’re not.

“I will not give up another one of my children so that a foreign person can have a nicer life. I’m not going to do it. You don’t understand the pain. It’s so deep in the soul — in the place you don’t even recognize you have. There aren’t words to describe the pain to someone who has not gone through it. I’m not giving up another kid,” she said.

Wilkerson then issued a blistering attack on sanctuary city policies that provide safe harbor and anonymity for dangerous, criminal aliens who are living illegally in the United States. She said …

‘Sanctuary Cities Liable Under Common Law Tort Precedent’

Britain, Crime, Criminal Injustice, IMMIGRATION

Reginald De Chantillon makes some interesting points about “The Illogic Of The American Immigration-Industrial-Complex,” posted on Britain’s Libertarian Alliance Blog:

Wonderfully written article. I might add that your writings on this matter are sufficient for bringing a cause of action by every victim of illegal alien crime against every city that has provided sanctuary. If San Francisco can be sued for millions because of the unlawful death of a motorist killed by a city lamppost, then surely the family of Kathryn Steinle can recover damages from San Francisco.

Sanctuary cities under common law tort precedent are all liable for damages caused by their policies if unlawful, negligence in executive action, dereliction of duty, or failure in fiduciary duty. San Francisco like all other sanctuary cities have unlawfully provided sanctuary to illegal aliens and thus are complicit in aiding and abetting every single act of criminality done by said illegals.

The total amount of damages caused by Sanctuary Cities is in the trillions of dollars. This includes damages caused by illegal aliens in driving all the way up to criminality. Damages can be properly shown to have derived from increased insurance caused by illegal aliens cost to actual tables. Illegal aliens are not in the shadows. However, if the Sanctuary Cities would like to enable us to collect damages against them by all means continue to grant documentation to Illegal aliens.

In summary, Sanctuary Cities have failed in the fiduciary duty, have been derelict in the duty to protect, have been negligent in faithfully executing the laws, and above all of engaged in unlawful and criminal behavior by protecting illegal aliens. Consequently, there is sufficient damages out there as a result of Sanctuary Cities to cause a bonanza of litigation for the Bar Association and to utterly bankrupt the Big City Progressive Ruling class into destitution. I say full speed ahead in litigating the unlawful death of Kathryn Steinle and others like her.

I’m grateful to be reaching more British readers, thanks to Dr. Sean Gabb, director of The Libertarian Alliance.

UPDATED: Coulter On Immigrant Crime

Ann Coulter, Crime, IMMIGRATION, Pseudoscience

Ann Coulter points to the iffy nature of the “studies”—all two of them—showing “that immigrants commit LESS crime than the native population.”

… Reason magazine boasts, for example, that El Paso, Texas, has a large Hispanic population and yet El Paso “is among the safest big cities in America.”

In fact, however, El Paso’s “safe city” ranking is based on an outdated FBI crime index that includes only eight crime categories, excluding such crimes as drunk driving, narcotics offenses and weapons violations. When the FBI’s more complete crime index is used, El Paso has a higher crime rate than the national average. … The two researchers whose work is cited over and over again for the proposition that immigrants are less criminal than Americans are Alex Piquero, criminology professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, and Bianca Bersani, sociology professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Pew cites their studies — and everyone in the media cites Pew, leading to headlines like these:

“UT Dallas prof finds immigrant kids less likely to commit serious crimes, re-offend” — The Dallas Morning News

“UMass Boston Prof: Stereotype of ‘Criminal Immigrant’ Doesn’t Hold Up” — Targeted News Service

“Surprise! Donald Trump is wrong about immigrants and crime” — The Washington Post

Curiously, we are never shown the actual studies, but simply told — with some heat — “studies show!”

I looked up some of these alleged studies this weekend. They’re all hidden behind ridiculous Internet paywalls. I was often only the sixth person to read them.

It turns out that neither Piquero nor Bersani compared immigrant crime to “the overall population” — as the British Guardian recently claimed in an article purporting to prove Donald Trump wrong. Rather, they compare immigrants’ crime rate to the crime rate of America’s most criminally inclined subgroups.

Thus, for example, once you get past the paywall, you will find that Piquero and Bersani’s joint study, “Comparing Patterns and Predictors of Immigrant Offending Among a Sample of Adjudicated Youth,” used as its base group “adolescents who were found guilty of a serious offense.”

THAT’S NOT A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE OF AMERICANS! It’s a representative sample of teenagers who are convicted criminals.

Similarly, professor Bersani’s oft-cited, but never-read study, “An Examination of First and Second Generation Immigrant Offending Trajectories,” looked at a population group that included “an over-sample of Hispanic and African-American youth.”

Instead of immigrants who are less crime-prone than our native blacks and Hispanics, we were hoping for immigrants less criminal than our Norwegians.

True, as Bersani explains, “because many immigrants initially settle in disadvantaged environments and are exposed to a number of crime-inducing risk factors, their experiences may be similar to many native-born minorities — particularly the African-American population.”

But here’s an idea: How about NOT taking in immigrants who are poor, uneducated, come from dysfunctional families and settle in disadvantaged environments? …

The rest.
