Bye-Bye To Chile, The Most Peaceful, Prosperous Country In Latin America

Crime, Government, IMMIGRATION, Multiculturalism, Nationhood

In 2010, the blog “Chile Is No Haiti” noted how that country had coped with what was “one of the most powerful earthquakes in history”:

If to judge by the number of opprobrious pieces the malfunctioning media, activist Anderson Cooper in the lead, ran about the little looting there was in Chile—they have been hoping that Chile, who’s been subjected to aftershocks as strong as Haiti’s main event, would fare as poorly as did the Africa of the Western Hemisphere.

Contrary to the thesis presented in “What Makes A Country, People Or Place?,” Chilean leaders have decided that their people are not their strength.

Wall Street Journal:

As the Trump administration aims to curb immigration, one of Latin America’s richest and safest countries has opened its doors to some of the region’s poorest migrants in record numbers. Tens of thousands of Venezuelans have fled their crime-ridden country in recent years for Chile, which has a history of receiving Bolivian, Peruvian and Colombian migrants.
But the most dramatic surge has come from Haiti. Last year, almost 105,000 Haitians entered Chile, compared with about 49,000 in 2016 and just a handful a decade ago, according to federal police that oversee border crossings.

Why Aren’t Dumb Republicans Calling Out Democrats For Devotion To DACA, Not America?

Debt, Democrats, Government, IMMIGRATION, libertarianism, Republicans

From the libertarian perspective, we want the Federal Government to shut down and not to open. Even a temporary shutdown, an exercise repeated annually to the same hysteria, will make little difference.

What never fails to surprise is the irredeemable stupidity of the Republicans—even though it, too, is as inevitable as water spiraling down a plughole. Tactically speaking, Republicans need to be shouting from the rooftops that Democrats are fighting, not for the American people, but for illegal aliens. What kind of party got to bat for non-citizens? A political party must represent its countrymen.

Pretty Sure Senate Judiciary Committee Is Meant To Be Talking About Things Other Than “Shitholes”

Africa, Constitution, Donald Trump, Europe, Government, IMMIGRATION

If I’ve learned anything from the “Shithole” shitstorm, over the last week, it is that Norway is the Real Shithole and that America should wise-up and welcome more immigrants from Africa and other, more exotic, locales. For Africans practically built America. (No corrections were forthcoming, when guests of Don Lemon and The Lemon himself said this on CNN.)

Did I accurately divine the corporate media’s incessant messaging? Trying my best.

Despite being from Shithole ancestry, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen acquitted herself superbly before the odious Lindsey Graham and his Democrat soulmates of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who, I am pretty sure, are meant to be talking about something other than Shithole Gate.

Nielsen was “testifying under oath to the Senate Judiciary Committee.” While accusing her of lying, the excellent journalists of America didn’t provide the original reason for her testimony.

Is an inquisition about presidential language par for the course in post-Constitutional America?

Kirstjen Nielsen has a Danish surname, although she could be of Norwegian lineage, as the name Nielsen is common in Norway and Sweden. Again, she did an excellent job, despite her ancestry.

UPDATE III (1/18): In US Government, Error That Could’ve Triggered Attack On North Korea Goes Unpunished. Oh, Well.

Foreign Policy, Government, Homeland Security, Technology, The State, War

“Temporarily reassigned” to other duties. That’s the fate—the punishment—of a government employee who, by mistake, “activated a missile launch warning” that “stirred panic across Hawaii over the weekend.”

Preparedness never killed anyone, but what if the US had annihilated North Korea based on a false emergency alert of a ballistic missile headed for Hawaii?

Yet an error that could have triggered a deadly attack on North Korea goes unpunished. In the private sector; you’d be fired.

There is little accountability in government, because it is a body that writes the rules it applies to itself.

And so many Americans want more government control!

Name, shame and fire the responsible government employee at the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.

… The error occurred when, in the midst of a drill during a shift change at the agency, an employee made the wrong selection from a “drop-down” computer menu, choosing to activate a missile launch warning instead of the option for generating an internal test alert … The employee, believing the correct selection had been made, then went ahead and clicked “yes” when the system’s computer prompt asked whether to proceed …

UPDATE I: In reply to Facebook thread: What would we do without the statist voice of reason?! It’s not like the US didn’t destroy Iraq after Colon (sic) Powell’s slide show at the UN. Then Libya. But it’s all “ridiculous story telling” to the statist incapable of learning to distrust the US State.

UPDATE II (1/15):  You know those countries on which America drops bombs—only ever for their own good? Ever thought of what their citizens experience just before such a “righteous” payload is dropped? In Hawaii, Americans got a taste of that. But maybe not, since no lessons or learning curve is ever cultivated.

UPDATE III (1/18): Readers thought the comment above was “the only decent take I’ve heard.” Agree, not because it’s me.
