Fox & Friend: Prince Al-Waleed

Islam

Over the weekend, Fox News ventured into the “Is Islam Peaceful? Sure it is” carefully crafted conversation (or shall I say consensus). They invited Dennis Ross and Steven Emerson to comment. The last was better than the first, but neither, as far as I know, is a scholar of Islam.

That’s when Robert Spencer ought to have been brought in, but wasn’t—seldom is. Spencer is the author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades), which is still a bestseller a year since its publication. His latest literary hole-in-one is The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World’s Most Intolerant Religion. It’s 63rd on Amazon. Both are courageous, path-breaking works.

As to why Fox has not consulted a genuine expert on Islam about its teachings, well, maybe their part-owner, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, has “counseled” against it.

Prof. Paul Gottfried on ‘La-Raza Libertarians’

IMMIGRATION, Islam, Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim, libertarianism

The intrepid Professors Paul Gottfried writes the following in response to “La-Raza Libertarians“:

May Heaven bless you for raising these politically incorrect issues! Right now I’m looking at the tracts of a candidate for international relations at our college, who praises the West Germans for being so “wracked with guilt” that they handed over their country to Muslim immigrants.
As the descendant of people whom the Nazis chased out of Europe, I don’t feel compensated by the lunatic decision to deliver that straying continent into the hands of Islamicists. In fact I wouldn’t want these immigrants and asylum-seekers invading Europe from the Third World, whether or not they collect welfare benefits once they reach their destination.
It is essential that we keep making the distinction between favoring the free market whether here, in Israel, or in Europe, and encouraging the lunatic leftist ideology of open borders. What makes the view that you assailed yesterday particularly dishonest is that no one who expresses it wants us to stop Third World underclass immigration until we have abolished the welfare state. They are simply making excuses for not noticing who comes here.

Calling Bin Laden’s Bluff

Islam

“Many factors have combined to mythologize Osama bin Laden. The ineptness of his enemies, for one: that we Americans have been incapable of capturing him does wonders for the fugitive’s status. The pulp-press bin Laden gets helps too. The title of CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour’s documentary about the man—’In the Footsteps of Bin Laden’—is a play on an idiom that suggests reverence.

For her production, Amanpour even managed to dredge, among many other character witnesses, a swaddled female fan, who went into raptures over the arch-terrorist. Amanpour also labored bin Laden’s Scarlet-Pimpernel qualities—the manner in which he would materialize and dematerialize mysteriously for his spectacular cameos. This enhanced his elusive aura (although in reality, I’m sure perfectly prosaic things such as cars and camels were involved in schlepping him here and there).

But bin Laden is not what he is made out to be. A clue to his limitations came when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi ignored his request, via Ayman al-Zawahiri, to quit killing so many Shia in Iraq. And now two books, published earlier this year, and reviewed by Max Rodenbeck in the New York Review of Books, expose yet more frailties in bin Laden’s façade…”
