Seattle Fool Foments Violence Against Business

Business, Capitalism, Glenn Beck, Government, Political Philosophy, Socialism

“They did it. Seattle voters elected a socialist candidate to the city council,” reported The Blaze, on Nov. 15.

Seattle City Councilor Kshama Sawant has since delivered a screed tying economic freedom to all social ills. Real original, isn’t she? A true intellectual too. She’s a professional academic, what else?

We need to recognize what is at the root of racism, this hatred and fear of black people, of people of color, of poor people,” Sawant said. “The root cause of these blatantly unjust laws is the capitalist system itself … this system does not work for us. Racism is necessary for this oppressive system to exist.

Nov. 21, the socialist councilwoman “accused aerospace and defense giant Boeing on Monday of ‘economic terrorism’ and told Boeing machinists they should consider taking ‘over the factories.'”

“The workers should … shut down Boeing’s profit-making machine,” Kshama Sawant told a group of activists in the city’s Westlake Park.
Sawant’s comments were made at a rally organized by machinists after they rejected a deal that would reduce pensions for union members in return for guaranteed jobs in Everett, Wash., building 777X Boeing airliners for eight years.
Now Boeing is considering taking those jobs elsewhere.

Go ahead, Boeing. Take the leap and move major operations from “The Evergreen State” to a right-to-work state. South Carolina residents will be only too happy to work rather than wreck stuff.

UPDATE III: HealthCare.gov : ‘Please Wait. We Have A Lot Of Visitors …’ (His Proctology)

Barack Obama, Glenn Beck, Government, Healthcare, Political Economy, Socialism, Technology

The message that greeted future patients who logged on to HealthCare.gov was, “Please wait. we have a lot of visitors on our site right now and we’re working to make your experience here better. Please wait here until we send you to the login page. Thanks for your patience.”

The message @ HealthCare.gov is a good metaphor for what will unfold under Obama Care: long lines precipitated by the inevitable inability of centrally planned exchanges to bring supply and demand into balance.

The Affordable Health Care Act’s motto will become, “Please wait, we have a lot of patients, and not enough of your money and everything else needed—doctors, supplies, equipment—to treat them.”

Obama, however, compared the inauguration of Obamacare—the website practically crashed, as will The Plan—to the bumpy “launch of iOS 7, the new mobile operating system released by Apple on September 18th.”

Obama was referencing a bug that came with the launch of iOS 7, the new mobile operating system released by Apple on September 18th. The bug allowed anyone to bypass an iPhone’s lockscreen and access their personal information and content. Apple released a patch for it a few days later.
“I don’t remember anybody suggesting Apple should stop selling iPhones or iPads or threatening to shut down the company if they didn’t,” Obama added. “That’s not how we do things in America. We don’t actively root for failure.” According to Obama, issues with the site have been caused by a heavy influx of new users and general launch bugs. Wait times on both the site and hotline have been longer than expected.

(HuffPo)

What an Ass With Ears (although Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld also failed to zero-in on why the comparison was so stupid, saying instead that the one item was a neat product that everybody wanted; the other not so much).

Nobody is forced by law to purchase or subsidize an iPhone or an iPad, or any other product produced by Apple.

UPDATED: Glenn Beck and his very funny team went to Healthcare.gov to see what gives. Not much:

When Glenn attempted to access the site, he was promptly greeted with the Internet equivalent of a “hold button.”

“I’m here, and I don’t know if you can get a shot of this… but I just went to Healthcare.gov and I’m on this exciting page right now: ‘Health insurance marketplace, please wait. We have a lot of visitors on our site right now and we’re working to make your experience here better. Please wait here until we send you to the login page. Thanks for your patience.’”

Below is a screenshot of the message:

“The government is the only business that has actually come up with a ‘hold’ button on the Internet,” Glenn said. “I’ve never seen anything like it. We’ve got a hold button. Hope you don’t have anything really wrong with you. So I’m just waiting now. They have a lot of visitors on their site right now and they’re working to make your experience better.”

“We appreciate your patience. You are Number 477,326 in line,” Pat quipped. “Please continue to wait, as you will be taken in the order in which you arrived. Thank you for your patience.”

After being completely kicked off the site and told to “try again later,” Glenn finally reached the log-in page on Healthcare.gov.

“I just got a login. Oh my goodness. I refreshed. I tried again later, and it just… ‘New to healthcare.gov? Create an account. Log in.’ I think, well, I am new to healthcare.gov. So I should create accounts.”

Stu, meanwhile, was not quite as lucky.

“I was trying to log in as well. I just got a new message,” Stu said. “Would you like me to share it with you because it’s important for your healthcare. It’s ‘???.ee.shared.header.learn???’ followed by ‘ffeee.shared.header.getinsurance???’. That’s what came up on the screen when I refreshed. That is good. I feel healthier already.”

Pat was somehow able to avoid the ‘question mark, question mark, question mark’ error, but his experience was not anymore pleasant. “Now, this says ‘Get ready for the Marketplace.’ I’m at that page. It’s asking me a question, and I fit into none of these categories,” Pat lamented. “‘Do you want information on any of the following situations? This will help us provide material about coverage options.’ ‘Dependent under 18:’ No. ‘Self?employed:’ No. ‘Low?income coverage options:’ No. ‘Disability:’ No. ‘Pregnancy:’ No. ‘Veteran:’ No. ‘American Indian or Alaskan native:’ No. ‘Preexisting conditions covered’ and so there’s either yes or no, and those are the only options. I can’t click anywhere except ‘go back.’”

“Hold on. We’re trying to make your healthcare experience even better. Stand by,” Glenn joked. “Question mark, question mark, question mark.”

Very funny.

UPDATE II: “Worse Is the New Normal” by Mark Steyn:

So, as in banking and housing and college tuition and so many other areas of endeavor, Washington is engaging in a kind of under-the-counter nationalization, in which the husk of a nominally private industry is conscripted to enforce government rules — and ruthlessly so …

UPDATE III: “100 Unintended Consequences of Obamacare,” Trader Joe’s is at #80:

Even though it has previously provided health-care coverage for its part-time employees, an uncommon practice in the industry, next year Trader Joe’s will give employees who work less than 30 hours a week $500 to purchase a plan in the upcoming Obamacare exchanges. With federal subsidies and possible earnings from other employment, the company said, workers can find coverage that will be just as good. One employee described her soon-to-be lost coverage as “one of the best parts about the job,” and her reaction to hearing it would be dumped was “pure panic, followed quickly by anger.”

I’ve been paying higher deductibles and co-pays and know full well why this has come about. There is no free lunch. Perhaps, like Michelle Malkin, I too will lose my healthcare coverage. Nevertheless, I feel nothing but glee at any discomfort experienced by those who voted for Obama and lectured us about the glories of his proctology.

Glenn Beck Awakens To The Color Of Hate Crime (But Fails To Credit Those Who Went Before)

Crime, Ethics, Glenn Beck, Morality, Race, Racism

“Oprah Winfrey, you disgust me.” Those were powerful and dramatic words—Glenn Beck’s—but they were probably the only original comments he came up with today on his radio show, during which the broadcaster finally deigned to chronicle one of the most heinous black-on-white hate crimes to have been ignored by mainstream, second-hander media and The Man himself for years.

When Beck used the words “the boyfriend was actually the lucky one,” to segue into a description of the butchering by 5 blacks of twenty-one-year-old Channon Christian, I had an idea where the material might have come from.

Those were words I lifted, last week, from my 2011 book (“Into the Cannibal’s Pot: Lessons for America from Post-Apartheid South Africa”), for the WND column. Here’s the excerpt from “Who’s Killing Whom? Speak Up, Bill O’Reilly!”:

“Five blacks—four men and a woman—anally raped Hugh, then shot him to death, wrapped his body in bedding, soaked it in gasoline and set it alight. He was the lucky one. Channon, his fair and fragile-looking friend, was repeatedly gang raped by the four men—vaginally, anally and orally. Before she died, her murderers poured a household cleaner down her throat, in an effort to cleanse away DNA. She was left to die, either from the bleeding caused ‘by the tearing,’ or from asphyxiation. Knoxville officials would not say. She was then stuffed in a garbage can like trash.”

White trash.

For the information that he and his much-touted researchers had missed, Beck credited a nameless listener, who, if he exists, is probably an avid reader of what Peter Brimelow dubbed the Guerrilla Press.

Yes, the superb reporters at VDARE have been doing the work Beck and the Republican Lincoln idolators have hitherto refused to do. As has Michelle Malkin, the departed Larry Auster, Jack Kerwick (a much-needed, new arrival), this writer, WND reporters, and others.

Ego has no place in telling the story of, as I put it, the “racial hatred … seared into the mangled white bodies of these victims and many more like them.”

What is important is that Glenn Beck, a powerful broadcaster, may have finally awoken to the color of hate crime.

Still, I do not trust individuals who fail to cite their sources, and do not credit those on whose shoulders they stand. Neither should you. If you want the unvarnished goods on crime from the correct angle—continue to track the guerrilla press.

And—do I really have to tell you this?!—don’t trust anyone who gets behind a mass murderer.

Your mother should have told you as much. (Only the other day, my liberal father reiterated the thought to me that he did not know how anyone could exculpate, much less lionize, Honest Abe .)

Glenn Beck Protecting Turf, Not Liberty

Conservatism, Conspiracy, Constitution, Glenn Beck, GUNS, Individual Rights

“The craziest person in the history of broadcasting” is how conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck has described Alex Jones. He is another, more libertarian radio host. The backdrop to Beck’s badmouthing: The White House is preparing to unveil as many as 19 extra-constitutional imperial decrees, aimed at watering down the right of self-defense.

Beck believes this is as good a time as any to go to war against Alex Jones, who is a formidable defender of the 2nd Amendment.

Beck wrote this in his newsletter, which I receive:

“Want to know who the media wants to make the face of the pro-gun argument in America? Look no further than conspiratorial radio host Alex Jones, best known for his 9/11 Truther theories and his love of Charlie Sheen’s hernia. Jones is the man behind the petition to deport CNN host Piers Morgan for his views on gun control. Morgan invited Jones onto his show to debate the gun issue yesterday, and not surprisingly, Jones made a fool of himself, giving the left the perfect poster boy for their attempts to paint every logical conservative as an extremist nut job. WATCH.”

As a rationalist, I am not a conspiracy theorist. But disagreement among patriots does nothing to undermine my assessment of Alex Jones. He may be an oddball, but he’s more libertarian (a free man) than any welfare-warfare Republican

As I’ve said, the Jones persona is as American as apple pie. Jones is what I love about America. And he didn’t rant on Piers Morgan’s show; he treated apathetic Americans to performance art: the performance of a fanatic for … freedom.

I can’t see what Beck’s motive would be in badmouthing Jones. A conspiracy theorist himself, perhaps Glenn cares more about guarding the broadcasting niche he has carved out for himself than about freedom.
