Manufacturing A Storm In The D Camp

Democrats, Elections 2008, Hillary Clinton, Iraq

Howard Dean has jumped in; Gore was volunteered as mediator, Pelosi piped up, Obama backers stomped their feet in fury, and demanded Hillary quit the competition—who is manufacturing this melodrama; this storm in the D Camp?

Don’t switch off when I say the media. Since when has a good political tussle become a cause for such breast-beating? What kind of a people can be led to denounce a vigorous race for the highest office in the land because it is, well, vigorous?

I’m describing a reality shaped by pussies. I won’t postulate about media motivation—why has the malpracticing media reflexively, rather than intentionally, framed a dynamic debate as a crisis?

It is possible that this mindless monolith’s hunger for Hussein has driven them to manufacture a reality out of thin air? I’m not sure these people are even smart enough to jump a level of abstraction and Meta-analyze their motivation, and, by extension, control their derangement. I think it’s all gut with this gormless lot.

But for heaven sake, settle down; calm down to a blind panic. As it is, elections are dishonest enough a process. Don’t buy into the phony supposition that a crisis is unfolding because two Democrats are battling bitterly over the party’s nomination. (If only Republicans had more than one mummified candidate.)

Admittedly, the Florida and Michigan delegate situation is disturbing. It’s obvious to me that party procedure cannot trump the truth as represented by the voters and their votes. This does not seem as plain to pundits and party officials.

Another thing that has been cobbled up is Hillary’s lying—her depiction as a pathological liar is humbug! Hillary embellishes on a few episodes in her life—she has a bit of an Arabic imagination; like Scheherazade of “A Thousand Arabian Nights”—and suddenly she’s a pathological liar?

This from pundits and politicians—”idio-experts” who’ve demonstrated their allergy to the truth over and over again. Iraq anyone? When it comes to grave issues of policy that affect lives and the future of this republic, Iraq is the cardinal lie. All those hammering home the message that Hillary is a liar for embellishing on a trip she made during another unjust war make me sick.

Come clean about the lies that led to the war in Iraq and that keep it going before fraudulently fashioning a fib into a lie.

The Hillary, Hussein, McCain Axis of Evil

Barack Obama, Elections 2008, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Politics

“So what do I think of the next president? I didn’t like his predecessor’s ‘New New Deal,’ so why would I like Barack Hussein Obama’s Great Great Society?

H. L. Mencken called elections ‘a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods.’ Henry Hazlitt said that “government has nothing to give to anybody that it doesn’t first take from somebody else.” But while robbing Peter to pay Paul is a philosophical given to the clowns competing for the commander-in-chief’s crown, it’s really much worse than that.

The nation’s treasury is empty. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, the three musketeers plan on a whole lot of deficit spending. To keep running-up debt on an account that is not yours is fraud by any other name. It’s manifestly clear how close on the unconstitutional continuum Hillary, Hussein and McCain stand.”

Hillary’s Hurting, But Will it Help?

Democrats, Elections 2008, Hillary Clinton

As you know, reason and realism are what guides this writer—she tries her best, at least. The slobbering sentimentality that has been conflated with authenticity in our culture sickens; it’s corrupting too. But there is a huge gulf between sentimentality and real emotion. The trick is to be able to tell the one from the other.
During the debates in New Hampshire, ABC’s anchor prefaced a question to Hillary by saying, “Iowans liked Obama more than you.” Hillary looked stung and, for once, allowed her words to reflect her wounds. She told “Charlie” how painful that was. And she looked humble and hurt. The media missed that one, but it was Genuine Moment Number One.
Hillary’s Second Genuine Moment came as she teared-up during a meet-and-greet at a coffee shop in Portsmouth, N.H. She looked rather nice too.
To the extent that she exposed her usually rigid, puritanical, driven self—to that extent she scored points. The problem is that women, her voting bloc, can’t distinguish a fake Oprah moment from a real display of valuable feelings. (Not all feelings are valuable; some people are more capable than others of harboring valuable feelings—and thoughts.)
So, the value of such a display of emotion depends on the ability of people to distinguish fake from fabricated. I doubt American culture facilitates such perspicacity. (Here’s an example of wickedness; of hate-the-opponent-all-the-time; of “Hot Air.”)
Unfortunately for Hillary, even when she does finally let her guard down and reveals a side of herself nobody has seen before, it might never be appreciated.

Hillary Blabbers About Bhutto

Foreign Policy, Hillary Clinton, Islam

“Hillary Clinton is demanding answers about the death of Benazir Bhutto.” She is also demanding that the fracas in Pakistan be internationalized—call in the UN, says she. And above all, put pressure on the already impotent President Pervez Musharraf to usher in democracy. Or hold “free and fair elections,” as she puts it. As though Musharraf alone is what stands between the people of Pakistan—who apparently yearn to breathe free—and democratic institutions and the rule of law.

The harridan Hillary differs very little from Bush: she announced her belief that America is obligated to shore-up civil society in Pakistan and address the “root causes” of the restive, ever-seething Muslim Street in that country. (To quote Clinton: “I’ve talked to President Musharraf about the necessity for us to raise the literacy rate, to reach out with healthcare and education that would help the Pakistani people to really concentrate on civil society.”) Can you say Nation Building?!

This is a meddler with paws stickier than Bush’s.

Above all, in her reaction to Bhutto’s assassination, Hillary has demonstrated that she is a deeply silly woman, having learned nothing from the adventure in Iraq. Forcing democracy down Iraqi gullets—now that worked out really well, didn’t? How about in the Palestinian Authority? At our insistence, democratic elections were held in the PA, and voila! The freedom loving Palestinians voted for Hamas, which the US then promptly boycotted. Egypt anybody? Think the Muslim Brotherhood, which would likely gain a majority if American idiots got the better of a recalcitrant Mubarak and forced him to democratize.

Be careful what you wish for in Pakistan, Hillary! They say about 50 percent of Pakistanis support the al Qaeda Islamist elements and the resurgent Taliban.

As for Bhutto whom the liberal media has hurried to canonize: No doubt, her death is tragic. But you have to admit that she was utterly reckless, bobbing up and down from sun roofs in unarmored, unprotected, rickety vehicles. Musharraf ought to have kept her under house arrest for her own good.

Nor was Bhutto such a saint; her niece certainly disputes her sainted status. Nor was she much of a “democrat”—for what it’s worth in that part of the world—during her time in office. Had she come to share power with Musharraf, she’d have supported an ongoing American presence in Pakistan. That might have also raised some of her countrymen’s hackles.
