UPDATE III (1/18): In US Government, Error That Could’ve Triggered Attack On North Korea Goes Unpunished. Oh, Well.

Foreign Policy, Government, Homeland Security, Technology, The State, War

“Temporarily reassigned” to other duties. That’s the fate—the punishment—of a government employee who, by mistake, “activated a missile launch warning” that “stirred panic across Hawaii over the weekend.”

Preparedness never killed anyone, but what if the US had annihilated North Korea based on a false emergency alert of a ballistic missile headed for Hawaii?

Yet an error that could have triggered a deadly attack on North Korea goes unpunished. In the private sector; you’d be fired.

There is little accountability in government, because it is a body that writes the rules it applies to itself.

And so many Americans want more government control!

Name, shame and fire the responsible government employee at the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.

… The error occurred when, in the midst of a drill during a shift change at the agency, an employee made the wrong selection from a “drop-down” computer menu, choosing to activate a missile launch warning instead of the option for generating an internal test alert … The employee, believing the correct selection had been made, then went ahead and clicked “yes” when the system’s computer prompt asked whether to proceed …

MORE.

UPDATE I: In reply to Facebook thread: What would we do without the statist voice of reason?! It’s not like the US didn’t destroy Iraq after Colon (sic) Powell’s slide show at the UN. Then Libya. But it’s all “ridiculous story telling” to the statist incapable of learning to distrust the US State.

UPDATE II (1/15):  You know those countries on which America drops bombs—only ever for their own good? Ever thought of what their citizens experience just before such a “righteous” payload is dropped? In Hawaii, Americans got a taste of that. But maybe not, since no lessons or learning curve is ever cultivated.

UPDATE III (1/18): Readers thought the comment above was “the only decent take I’ve heard.” Agree, not because it’s me.

Bad Things Legitimized Under Trump, On The Welfare & Warfare Fronts

Business, Donald Trump, Foreign Policy, Homeland Security, Intelligence, Republicans, Taxation, War, Welfare

Has anyone notice that:

1. Transfer programs, welfare, have gained populist legitimacy under President Trump?

[Expanded] is the child tax credit … allowing families who owe no federal income taxes to still claim up to $1,400 of the $2,000 child tax credit, up from $1,100 in the original version.

2. The taxpayers most stiffed are now individuals, more often than not from humble beginnings, whose talents and hard work have netted them a high income. A glance at the Bell Curve explains why this cohort has no political clout: they’re a statistical minority.

Also legitimized under Trump is permanent warfare. You can say, “our forces in Africa,” and nobody, left or right, will question our sacred military’s right to be in over 100 countries conducting maneuvers. America’s borders remain porous.

3. “All of the individual tax breaks will expire at the end of 2025.” In other words, tax cuts for businesses are forever, tax cuts for individuals merely temporary.

Murder In Manhattan: Another Investigation That’ll Go Nowhere

Homeland Security, IMMIGRATION, Islam, Multiculturalism, Terrorism

There we go again. And again. And again, ad infinitum. Or, until politicians and their families are hit. Murder in Manhattan: Just another investigation that’ll go nowhere.

The Manhattan terrorist, Sayfullo Saipov, is resting comfortably in a nice American hospital, celebrating a mission accomplished. I bet you he’s being fed and pampered for his efforts.

Saipov is a high-potential (HiPo) Muslim immigrant from Uzbekistan, who came to the US on the “Diversity Immigrant Visa Program,” because, as you’ve heard, diversity is our strength and eight people dead because of diversity is a mere statistical artifact.

Trump promised to discontinue the Diversity Visa. Why not start with a visit to the U.S. Department of State? It’s still recruiting Diversity Visa immigrants like our Manhattan Jihadi.

You’ve read these headlines many times before, pertaining to HiPo immigrants in the US and in Europe. Via Drudge:

Of Course You Can Vet Immigrants. Ask What Faith They Practice.

Homeland Security, Islam, Jihad, Media, Terrorism

On Fox News, broadcaster Mark Levin ranted cliches. You can’t bring certain individuals into the US, he yelled, because there is no way to check them out, or vet them. People come from countries with ineffective governments. Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov was likely a good little Uzbeki before America reached out and recruited him to come to the US.

That’s plain silly. Most Muslim arrivals likely don’t have criminal records on arrival. Enough of these Muslim immigrants devolve—or is it evolve?—from passive practitioners of Islam to a more “proactive” practice of the religion of peace in their host countries.
