How far has the level of “news” fallen when a reporter doesn’t know that her role is to report, not editorialize.
The following is an irate display of ignorance and arrogance by a CNN anchor (via Glenn Beck). Following a rude “exchange”–it was certainly not an interview–with a clean-cut patriot carrying a toddler, who addressed the vile woman respectfully as “Ma’am,” Madam resorted to this rant:
“I think you get the general tenor of this. It’s anti-government, anti-CNN, since this is highly promoted by the rightwing conservative network Fox. And since I can’t really hear much more and I think this is not really family viewing, toss it back to you.”
Note the tone “Susan Roesgen” adopts; it drips contempt. Roesgen ought to be fired, simply because this is not journalism; it’s activism.
Update I (April 18): CNN defended Roesgen: “She was doing her job, and called it like she saw it.” From oral-sex jokes to red neck and racist insults: there has been not a vestige of honest reporting about tea party protests from mainstream malpractitioners.
The left is trying to frame the tea party movement as a right wing hate for Obama, instead of Americans fed up with overtaxation, overregulation, stealing our liberty etc. The media has been getting away with editorial comments mixed with news for so long they feel they can mix in commentary with news to get there agenda across without labeling it as commentary, and pick up on the anchors’ comment after the report. It is the prime example of what’s going on here–appearing to agree with the reporter it sounds like the anchor is trying to reinforce the reporter’s comments, shameful of both of them.
I think a lot of this is just left wing journo-anger at their ever decreasing relevance. No one watches CNN anymore, this reporter knows it and is angry.
Susan Roesgen has descended to new lows in quasi-journalism. Her panic is obvious. CNN and its ilk are quickly going out of business, and soon she will have no job – who would want her? She would have been fired from my high school newspaper. But wait, I know, the Flat Earth Society is looking for a public relations director. She would be perfect, but watch out for the edges!!
Dreadful.
It is good actually, as long as government takes no action showing preference.
The American founding fathers knew ALL media has an agenda. It is time the people remembered that.
I once worked as a volunteer in a conservative bookstore. As you can imagine, we would get all types of people coming in. One day a man walked in that had the appearance of a liberal.
I began a polite conversation with him and he soon revealed to me that he used to be a liberal, and was looking for some conservative books to read.
I said “well you came to the right place.”
I then asked him “what happened, what caused you to start thinking
differently?”
He responded “The IRS came down on me really really hard!”
Sounds to me like little Suzie needs a wake up call like my friend in the bookstore.
“wake up little Suzie, wake up…” Now I just can’t get that song out of my head.
Here’s some perfectly objective reporting from a South Carolina tea party. No snotty lefty reporter trying to impose her preconceived narrative. No vapid pseudo-conservative celebrities trying to hitch a ride on someone else’s revolt. Just sit and watch how the tea party treats congressman and fourth stooge Gresham Barrett when he tries to launch into the usual GOP vaudeville act.
