Ron Paul to CNN’s Gloria Borger: “When are you going to wear yourself out?” CNN has dredged up the “Ron Paul Report” again. These are the politically incorrect newsletters published under Ron Paul’s name during the 1980s and 1990s, and unearthed, strategically, by The New Republic, during the last campaign. This as Paul’s popularity rises. “I didn’t write them, I didn’t read them all, and I disavow them,” responded the congressman.

My guess is that pissed-off supporters don’t give a tinker’s toss about the media monolith’s mandate to enforce racially correct thinking. Talk to the hand, Borger (below).

UPDATE: Kind words for Paul from La Coulter.

I’m less worried about this non-issue that the media is trying to manufacture a controversy out of, than I am about his defense of Bradley Manning. THAT is making it problematic for me to support him, despite the fact that he’s tremendous on nearly everything else.

I was thinking that the mainstream media would wait until after Iowa before taking Dr. Paul down. I am completely confident (as Prophet of Mischigash) that they will give him the complete “Goldwater treatment” as I outlined in:

    http://barelyablog.com/?p=45744

I will get it from everyone as all the 9/11 truther and racist and anti-Semite and the rest of the media pillory comes
out. Paul is like Goldwater more than Reagan and cannot laugh it off like our man Ronnie could….

Robert – do you have a link to Ron Paul’s defense of Bradley Manning? Also – there IS a difference between defending Wikileaks and defending those who violated their military oaths (e.g. Assange vs. Manning).

I guarantee you the republicans who act offended at these newsletters could care less about them. Their problems with Paul lie elsewhere.

Notice how CNN only ‘Strategically’ aired the very end of the interview? Of course they don’t want to show the beginning, which probably set up the normally mild-mannered Dr. Paul to prematurely end the interview.
Borger tried to ‘sweetly’ tell Dr. Paul that she’ ‘only asking questions- it’s my job’. I didn’t know her job was to ambush Candidates her bosses don’t want to win with ‘Do you STILL beat your wife?’ type questions! I would bet that she was MUCH nastier and confrontational in the tape leading up to the point where this ‘interview’ was edited to appear to begin. What’s even worse was the ‘panel’ of three rabidly anti-Paul people (and one hack reporter) who gave their ‘unbiased opinion’ on this smear-job afterwards. They are trying to spin the meme that ‘Ron Paul is shooting himself in the foot’- when in reality, when the media runs raw smear pieces like this, they are actually shooting THEMSELVES in the HEAD! And most viewers see right through this garbage.

    Ann Coulter’s latest on Newt:

Romney, the patrician chameleon, defends his beliefs but changes them slowly over time to suit the political background. In this, he is like Bush Senior – somewhat honorable but ideologically hollow. Newt, on the other hand, talks on both sides of his mouth – a la Kerry – for and against Fannie Mae, the Fed, big government, whatever… with his self-proclaimed “brilliant oratory” to try to cover up his flagrant hypocrisy.

I have to confess that I would prefer that Ron Paul tone down some of the anti-war rhetoric and speak anti-war pragmatism rather than saying stuff that sounds like covering up for Ahmadinejad or the other mini-Hitlers floating around. Most Americans don’t care that much about historical pointers on what the CIA did back in 1953 in Iran and some of it comes off very bad on TV.

    Myron,
“I was thinking that the mainstream media would wait until after Iowa before taking Dr. Paul down.”

Yes that was my thinking as well. Evidently he is leading Iowa by a wider margin than we know or they would be saving their powder. One thing for certain is that after Senator Paul wins Iowa there wil be a coordinated character assault not seen since Goldwater in the 60’s, and Buchanan in the 90’s. One thing about the GOP leadership is that once they decide who it will be, who it MUST be,(in this case Romney)they will not wait to see the white in their opponents eye before killing every man, woman and child in their way. It has been so since the days of Sherman and hasn’t changed much except now they have the South convinced it is good for them!

I just read the ‘Nicki’ article referenced above, how come it was the exact same speech I listened to at my conservative breakfast this morning. The only exception was the table leader also said that we had to keep all the troops in all of the other countries because someone might attack us if we didn’t keep them under a tight leash. Alright, the tight leash was my interpretation of his comment why we must stay there to protect them because they love and need us. Never mind that the Japanese threw their prime minister out a couple of years ago; because, he agreed to a new US base on Okinawa. Personally, I still am of the mind that the president has no real power; but, is the weather vane for Congress. It’s been proven time and again, that with a Democrat President and a Republican Congress or vice versa government encroachment slows. If we can get a true conservative (not Republican or Democrat Conservative) Congress, we will reverse the course of government, otherwise, nada, zilch, nein and none. Paul as the only true conservative will be less effective than Carter was.

Liberal MSM won’t give Ron Paul much trouble unless he polls much higher than he is now. They’ll encourage him to go Third Party, then use him to split the Republican vote and re-elect Obama. Or so they think.

  10. robert

Only Ron Paul and Rick Perry have ever served in the military in any capacity what-so-ever, Paul as a U.S. Air Force medical officer and Perry as an Air Force pilot. The loudest war cries for more and more and “On To Iran” are coming from the normal cast of silly chickenhawks, not the warriors. Gingrich and Romney being the most obvious and audacious from the Vietnam deferment class.

  11. derek

Ron Paul’s problem is that he cannot communicate effectively and he allows himself to be put into the awkward position of seemingly defending Iran and other undesirables. Having said that, I know it is hard, and you will never see me taking the public stage to fend off the hyenas that are arranged to take him down. But if Ron had the quick mind and speaking abilities of Pat Buchanan he’d more be effective in convincing people that his ideas are correct.

Most people I know who like Paul already arrived at their views on the welfare/warfare state and were not converted to that position by Paul. Thus, when Paul came along he was preaching to the choir.

But I see him having a harder time convincing those who need convincing because he doesn’t speak in complete sentences and changes his thought patterns frequently. I know he is intelligent, but public speaking is not his strong suit. If he could present himself like Buchanan, he’d be a serious threat.

  12. Jeff

Derek, Pat Buchanan has a quick mind and good speaking ability … and establishment Republicans took him down anyway. Ron Paul should counter the newsletter questions with a lecture on the insidious racism of low expectations; the only racism that is still practiced openly.

This is the so-called “praise for Bradley Manning”:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pbSCT2SE6U

    My comments on this:

    1. Ron Paul neither condemned nor specifically praised Manning so once again, his opponents are ADDING WORDS to him that were not said!

    2. Most leaks come from high level government people to their media buddies – I know of some specific SECRET things that I worked on that wound up getting leaked (selectively, of course) once it got to the White House.

    3. Paul was contrasting government people who violate laws with impunity and who lie to the public with “whistleblowers” in general.

    4. Arguably, it was vague whether he thinks that Manning should suffer the consequences of disobedience or not. As I mentioned before, sometimes Dr. Paul is overly incendiary over some semi-academic nits that lead to misinterpretation.
