UPDATE II: Megyn Kelly's Mesmerism

Barack Obama, Conspiracy, Healthcare, Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim, Liberty, Media, Regulation

Dr. Adam Dorin, president of the Tea Party Doctors, was on with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly to expose the American Medical Association (with its “white-coat representation at the White House”), for selling out America’s doctors to her statists.

Dr. Dorin made some invaluable points about healthscare, such as that the AMA represents at best 17 percent of practicing physicians; that it has an “exclusive [copyrighted] coding deal with the US government,” compelling all doctors to bill in a certain way; that most doctors do not favor this legislation, and that, by legislative fiat, ObamaCare “elevates non-physicians (those big fat, nurses and their assistants we all dread) and other auxiliary staff, to perform the role traditionally performed by physicians. The addition of 30 millions new free loaders, moreover, will necessitate the importation of Third World, non-American trained doctors.

Now Kelly is a sharp lady, head-and-shoulders above your regular Foxette (and isn’t that a gorgeous blue dress she is wearing? Classic.). But she disappointed this time, taking a sudden turn away from the fact-packed, rational discourse of Dorin, to impugn The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons which publishes his op-eds (they once published one or two of mine, as well).

Apparently the AAPS published a piece about Obama’s oratory—which certainly has a fuzzy, hypnotic quality—having induced in voters an hypnotic state. Jumping from that factual observation to the conclusion that Americans were more somnambulist than normal when they elected BHO is nonsensical. It was my impression, however, that Kelly was mocking the former observation rather than the latter conclusion.

Either way, if this article was of interest to Kelly, she ought to have devoted a seperate segment to it, rather than taint Dorin’s perfectly straightforward position by implying he kept dubious company. The Left is praising Kelly. They are wrong. Guilt by association is an error of logic when deployed to refute an argument.

The AAPS is an avowedly pro-liberty organization, whose representatives have appeared on Fox News. Jane Orient, Executive Director of the AAPS, has done an immense amount of good for free medicine in this country.

UPDATE I (Sept. 12): My plucky physician, who had recently gone solo, has just informed me she is giving up her independence to join a group. Managing the business side of the practice had become too daunting, and will become even more so as Obama-Care regulations kick in.

I anticipate notice, any day, from my insurance, informing us of “changes” pursuant to Obama Care. Once the insurance providers and the swarms of attorneys they employ go over the Bill, they are bound to find ways to shove the insured into the government health care gulag.

UPDATE II (Sept. 13): Dr. Orient has responded to Ms. Kelly, and provided a hyperlink at the AAPS to this Barely A Blog post.

Goon Meets Supercilious

Journalism, Media, Neoconservatism, Political Correctness, Pseudo-intellectualism, Republicans, The Zeitgeist

Put evil and supercilious together and what do you get? “Parker Spitzer,” the new current-events program CNN is about to launch staring Eliot Spitzer, whose most elevated job was as a John, and Kathleen Parker, a pseudo-intellectual in the Peggy Noonan and David Brooks mode, also a member of the “Soft Left (otherwise known as Conservatives).”

This just goes to show that statists, and individuals with low moral character and banal ideas will always have a prime place on American TV and in its restricted market place of ideas.

Goose-Stepping Stupid

Bush, Debt, Economy, Labor, Media

My favorite analogy in describing the random, rudderless veering of the political and economic “minds” that bedevil us on the idiot’s lantern is Brownian motion—microscopic particles (the minds in question) in motion, suspended in gas. Peter Schiff likens the flurry to a “flock of pigeons that stays in tight formation, flies feverishly, while refusing to stick to any particular direction for very long”:

“Today’s weak GDP numbers have finally caused the mass of economists to revise downward their formerly optimistic recovery forecasts, with many finally entertaining the possibility of a ‘double dip’ recession. It should be obvious by now that these economists only have the capacity to describe where the economy is moving in the short-term…they have no ability to explain the reasons behind the macro trends or make predictions that go beyond the next data release. But economics is not dart throwing. It can be understood and properly forecast.

The major mental block is that most economists believe that an economy grows as a result of spending. Any policy that encourages spending and discourages savings and investment is considered beneficial. Unfortunately, these policies, which only succeed in growing debt and government, act more as an economic sedative than a stimulant.”

What do you know, the geese described above have news: it’s all good. TIME magazine wants you to know: Rising unemployment is good.

The Department of Labor reported August job numbers on Friday, and the numbers appeared to be another bad sign for the recovery. The economy lost 54,000 positions in the last full month of summer. Worse, the unemployment rate rose for the first time in four months to 9.6%, from a rate of 9.5% the month before.
So is this jobs report the latest sign that we are headed for a double dip? Probably not. Actually it’s the opposite. Despite what it looks like, today’s jobs numbers are good news for the economy. Mark Zandi, a closely watched economist, had this to say on CNBC when the job report was announced, “It solidifies the idea the economic recovery is going to remain intact.”

For a moment I was worried (actually, I began to worry—and warned of hyperinflation—in 2003, when “W” began the deficit spending in earnest).

The fig leaf of a “jobless recovery” is being used a bit less, but substitutes are coming fast and furious.

Born To Porn

Celebrity, Conservatism, Family, Hollywood, Media, Pop-Culture, The Zeitgeist

Sean Hannity once touted the one-time porn star, and all-round vulgarian Kim Kardashian as a role model for young girls because she does not imbibe. For the sake of good taste I will not post a hyperlink to Kim’s on-camera, narcissistic, bottoms-up gymnastics with a former boyfriend. But I hope Hannity’s daughter, if he has one, does not take her dad’s moral guidelines seriously. (More HERE about other Fox News porn pinups.)

Budding slut Montana Fishburne, on the other hand, needs no fatherly encouragement to pursue porn.

“According to TMZ.com, the 19-year-old daughter of Oscar-nominated actor Laurence Fishburne recently posed for a test photo shoot for Playboy magazine.”

“Fishburne’s idol, Kim Kardashian, also posed for Playboy before her sex tape went public and made her a household name. Fishburne has said that she was inspired to get into the porn industry because Kardashian found mainstream success after starting out as a sex tape star.”

“‘I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became, and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape,’ Montana said in a statement through Vivid Entertainment, which is releasing her first porn film. ‘I’m hoping the same magic will work for me. I’m impatient about getting well-known and having more opportunities, and this seemed like a great way to get started on it.'”

Unlike the celebrity dad just mentioned, Montana Fishburne’s famous father has responded appropriately.

“As Fishburne’s career heats up, her relationship with her dad has grown cold. She claims her dad refuses to talk to her.”

According to TMZ, the two spoke Aug. 16, and Laurence Fishburne told his daughter, “I’m not going to speak with you till you turn your life around.”
“You embarrassed me,” he said. “You used your last name. No one uses their real name in porn.”
