UPDATED (4/3/019): The American Dream? Forget The White Picket Fence And The House

Business, Economy, Globalism, IMMIGRATION, Labor, Nationhood, Private Property

CBS News:

Even with rising wages and falling mortgage rates, Americans can’t afford a home in more than 70 percent of the country. Out of 473 U.S. counties analyzed in a report, 335 listed median home prices more than what average wage earners could afford, according to a report from ATTOM Data Solutions. Among them are the counties that include Los Angeles and San Diego in California, as well as Miami-Dade County in Florida and Maricopa County in Arizona.

Naturally, realtors prefer a tight housing market driven, in part, by an unending influx of immigrants:

… swaths of America have seen local housing fundamentally altered by an influx of new immigrant groups—sometimes in surprising ways that fly in the face of prevailing narratives.

There are now about 42 million immigrants from just about every country in the world living in the U.S., making up about 13% of the overall population, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. They’re a wildly diverse group, but they’re bound by a common desire: to build a better life for themselves and their families.

“Immigrants are a big driving force for housing markets across the nation,” says Kusum Mundra, an economics professor at Rutgers University, Newark. “Most want the American dream, which is to own a home.”

UPDATED (5/27/019): ‘Apartheid Government’ Had Quite A Good Educational Outcome, Historians Discover. READ WHY.

Crime, Education, English, Globalism, Nationhood, South-Africa

What do you know, “More children around the world are being taught in English, often badly,” reveals The Economist, in the article, “Language without Instruction.

“History provides some intriguing examples of the effect of being educated in the mother tongue or some other language.”

A policy change in South Africa introduced in 1955 by the apartheid government used the medium of education to sharpen the divide between whites and blacks, increasing the years of schooling that children got in their mother tongue. Two extra years of mother-tongue schooling, instead of schooling in Afrikaans or English, raised both literacy and wages, according to a recent study of historical data.

Of course, The Economist, whose reporting I value immensely, asserts foolishly that the reason “the apartheid government” increased “the years of schooling that children got in their mother tongue” was to increase racial divisions.

Not true. The policies of separate development were rooted in a belief that human beings were attached to their own tribe and would be less restive and more well-adjusted if educated in their own ways, rather than anglicized.

In any case, scholars have discovered that across the non-English speaking parts of the world, kids fare better when English is a subject, but not a medium, of education.

Does this mean that tribalism reveals itself in educational patterns and proclivities? That people exhibit a belonging that can’t be easily erased?

‘Soviet States Democratized Better When They Had A Deep-Rooted Nationalist Movement’

Communism, Democracy, Fascism, Nationhood, Populism, Russia, Socialism, The West

We are propagandized daily about the dangers of nationalism (only among Western nations, mind you).

Nationalism, the statists tell us, is fascism by any other name. It’s certainly never a benign force.

A scholar from “the University of Toronto … argues,” however, that former Soviet states democratized better when they had a deep-rooted nationalist movement.”

Estonia is thriving. Lo and behold, nationalism “was stronger in Estonia, which was independent from 1918 to 1940, than in Moldova, which was ruled by Romania or Russia for centuries.”

It’s so intuitive that national cohesion and nationalism would enhance the willingness to submit to mass society, namely, democracy.

From Eagle Pass, Texas, To Your Neighborhoods, The Caravans Are Still Coming

Ann Coulter, Homeland Security, IMMIGRATION, Military, Nationhood

Egged on by Ann of Arc, representing Deplorables, the Trump administration has done something small but not insignificant, on the immigration front.

The latest in a string of caravans is also the first to be met with a martial response proper, on both sides of the border, west of Eagle Pass, Texas.

The Administration had discovered a clause in immigration law that lets it replace “catch and release” with “catch and return.” Once they lodge their claim for asylum, migrant interlopers must either remain in Mexico, or be returned to Mexico, to “await their immigration court hearing.”

Yes, from Eagle Pass, Texas, to your neighborhoods; the Caravans are still a coming.
