UPDATED (4/27/021): Caitlyn Jenner’s Greatest Achievement: She Still Loves Women

Celebrity, Gender, Politics, Pop-Culture, Sex

I watched a little of Caitlyn Jenner’s acceptance speech for the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at Wednesday’s ESPYs. It’s hard not to feel oodles of sympathy when one watches the awkward gait and masculine stride and hears that still-booming voice of Bruce Jenner. Many transgender people I’ve seen on TV truly look their new gender part. Having “transitioned,” you can see they are indeed more comfortable in their new skin. But not poor Caitlyn. I hope for her sake that she knows what she’s doing. There is no going back. (And if only he/she did not feel the need for the plastic pout that made her diction so hissy. Why must “transitioning” be accompanied with that much silicone and plumping agents?) I do believe that Caitlyn will still love women.

And that is a true achievement, given the women—Kardashians—who surround him.

UPDATE (4/27/021): This. The GOP show goes on.

A Study In Contrasts

Ethics, Media, Morality, Politics, Republicans

The political class is immoral by its very nature and in the way it operates. Witness Ted Cruz’s ego-centered battle with the New York Times, because of “the Gray Lady’s refusal to put his book on its bestseller list.” A book written and promoted on the taxpayer’s dime, as are all books peddled by politicians in office. (Fox News’ Megyn Kelly promised to hype this vanity duel from her vanity perch.)

Contrast this with a man who doesn’t need the political process to increase his riches; the obverse. Donald Trump filed his financial disclosure with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). With much snickering and snide smirks, CNN bobbing heads reported and wrote that Trump was “boasting” his worth was upwards of $10 billion.

What’s there to be humble about?

No Trump Apology Tour

“No Trump Apology Tour” is the current column, now on The Unz Review, America’s smartest webzine. An excerpt:

“CNN anchor Don Lemon conducted an interview with Donald Trump. It went very well, for Mr. Trump, that is. So well that Lemon’s scoop is difficult to locate on CNN’s website. Instead, Mediate.com scooped the telephonic exchange.

Lemon was at a loss. He got more sour-looking by the minute, as Trump bulldozed him with the force of his convictions and personality. There was no interrupting Trump’s train of thought. The “builder-businessman” was going to say his piece.

Americans have been listening intently. “A CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday,” reported National Journal, ‘showed Trump had 12 percent of the vote among Republicans and Republican-leaners, second only to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who earned 19 percent.’

Trump’s retort: “I’m not happy being behind Jeb Bush.” He went on to ponder beguilingly how Bush 3 (a man he would fire) could be soaring in the polls:

I don’t get it. He’s in favor of Common Core, extremely weak on immigration. He thinks people come over for love. I don’t understand why he’s in first place. Maybe it’s the Bush name. Last thing we need is another Bush. But I will tell you, I’m a little surprised he’s in the position he’s in.

As Trump sees it, his countrymen are being betrayed by the Beltway. To make America great, he’d have to restore American prosperity. Jeb Bush will not do America’s bidding. It’s not his thing.

True. Jeb Bush will not lead America to the Promised Land, in Trump’s words. No politician will. The hope is that Trump, who does not need to ride us like the others, will get the parasites-in waiting off our backs.

Trump’s strength is that he keeps coming back to the stuff of life: business, economics, making a living. Politics is the stuff that kills all that. …”

Elections, Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim, Politics

CNN’s cretins, Gloria Borger is one, are transparent in their skewed “analyses.” Today, Borger and a token Republican panelist were projecting their presidential hopes onto the scrappy (and crappy) Chris Christie. With his ostensible straight-talking habit, Christie, or so the collective brain cell at CNN hopes, will give Donald Trump a run for his money. But the voters are on to Christie, a backstabbing, vulgar opportunist. The governor’s rise was as vertiginous as his fall. Via National Journal:

A CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday showed Trump had 12 percent of the vote among Republicans and Republican-leaners, second only to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who earned 19 percent. A Quinnipiac poll, which was also out Wednesday, revealed Trump was also tied for second with Dr. Ben Carson among likely Republican caucus voters in Iowa. Carson and Trump each had 10 percent of the vote. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker led the pack with 18 percent.

Christie is nowhere. Rude to voters and to journos, but never to The Powers That Be, the governor is nothing like Trump, who is actually quite courteous, if direct.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to express innocent wonderment at the popularity of Jed Bush:

“I don’t get it. He’s in favor of Common Core, extremely weak on immigration. He thinks people come over for love. I don’t understand why he’s in first place,” Trump said. “Maybe it’s the Bush name. Last thing we need is another Bush. But I will tell you, I’m a little surprised he’s in the position he’s in.”

Like CNN, National Journal is hopeful that American voters will follow the lead of Macy’s, NBC and Univision, and ditch The Donald. “In a Republican presidential field rich with esteemed governors and senators, tough-talking businessman Trump has managed to rise in the polls to be a top-tier candidate,” grumbles one Lauren Fox.

Then she comforts herself, writing: “Name ID and support from the GOP base may be boosting Trump for now, but it will fade.”

This is how these outlets “report”: They lead with their own hopes.
