Nifonged

With respect to readers’ comments on the crucifixion of Conrad Black being the handiwork of the Left:

Fine, so long as we agree that by the “Left” we mean Republican Party hacks as well. Under their watch the most egregious prosecutions have taken place: Martha Stewart and Conrad Black.

As I coined the verb “Nifonged,” I’ll resurrect a quote with respect to the front runner in the presidential race. “Rudy Giuliani: That’s the guy who Nifonged Michael Milken, right?”—ILANA (March 4, 2007)

Yes, let’s be clear: when we speak of anti-business (and anti-justice) prosecutions launched by the Left, we include Republicans.

South African Jews: If Desperate, Go to Israel

Crime, IMMIGRATION, Israel, South-Africa

Israel’s overall death rate from crime is very low; lower than that of the US, which is, overall, about 6 in 100,000. Of course, in our ghettoes it rises to about 40 per 100,000, and thus closely approximates the rates I’ve documented for South Africa.

As readers of this blog (and of my columns) know, South Africa jostles with Iraq (but beats Columbia, I am told) for the title of the most violent place on earth: “The last statistics available, courtesy of the CBS, showed that between April 2004 and March 2005, 18,793 people were murdered in South Africa (population 47 million). In comparison, the ‘high crime’ United States (population 297 million) suffered 16,692 murders. Put differently, South Africa has 60 homicides per 100,000 people; the US approximately 6. And these are the official, filtered figures. According to Robert McCafferty of the United Christian Action, the South African Medical Research Council tallies 89 daily deaths, or 32,000 a year. Interpol’s statistics are also double those released by the South African Police Service.”

Remarkably, in 2004, Israel’s death by murder was 3.7 per 100,000 for civilians only; 4.3 when soldiers were included. (“Homicide rates in 2004 in a number of major U.S. cities, including the nation’s capital, exceeded rates of Palestinian fatalities at the hands of Israel’s army in the past year.”)

Ergo, if South African Jews are unable to immigrate to the US or Europe, they ought to consider Israel. They are far less likely to die there than in South Africa.

Are Hippie Parents Sending Kids Into The Maw of Death?

Another young girl died overseas on a school trip. I saw the item on CNN, but cannot find the link (help please). The parents allege foul play.
American and European parents are blasé about their kids, be it in the way they discipline or supervise them. They are also stupendously naïve, sending their precious progeny, during their most stupid years—the teens—to dangerous spots around the world. Bermuda, for instance, which “US and British crime advisories have warned of as having a medium-high crime rate.”

Consider the case of Rebecca Middleton. This Canadian 16-year-old was packed off to Bermuda by starry-eyed parents with her friend Jasmine Meens, ready for a “trip of a lifetime.” A left-liberal mindset has these folks believing the world is one big happy place, and that walking the streets of Mogadishu and those of Montreal (lovely city) are one and the same thing.
In any event, Middleton “accepted rides on motorcycles, operated by Mr. Smith and Mr. Mundy.” (Here’s Justis Smith.) the Bermuda Online described what these predators did to the girl as “the most animal sexually-depraved, most violent and inhuman murder of any woman or man anywhere in the world.” (Wild and Wooly English, that’s for sure.) Intriguingly, the appeals in the case—no one was convicted—were argued in the Bermudan courts by Cherie Booth Blair.
The hippie spirit was also alive and well in Natalie Holloway’s family. (Never mind the male predators waiting to prey on trusting North American girls, I would not have entrusted my child to any adult chaperon chosen by a North America schools.)

UPDATED: ‘EVIL, NOT ILL’

Crime, IMMIGRATION

“To listen to the nation’s addiction and psychiatric gurus is to come to believe that crimes are caused, not committed. Perpetrators don’t do the crime, but are driven to their dirty deeds by a confluence of uncontrollable factors, victims of societal forces or organic brain disease.”
A well-aimed bullet would have stopped Cho. But gun-free zones are not the only areas in need of reclamation. The concept of the individual as a responsible, self-determining agent is the foundation of a free society. Liberty requires that psychiatric mumbo-jumbo not be allowed to oust morality…”

The excerpt is from my new WorldNetDaily.com column, “Evil, Not Ill.” It leads the Commentary Page. Barely-a-Blog participants will be familiar with some of the arguments.

Update: The indefatigable Thomas Szasz, the world’s leading critic of psychiatry, liked the following lines from my column best:

“Police and campus authorities responded to Cho’s stalking, pyromania, and voyeurism by medicalizing his misbehavior. As the nation’s pseudo-experts generally advise, Cho was referred to a mental health facility.”

I’d like to welcome Robert Reavis to Barely a Blog. He is a District Judge in the American “Heartland.” His colorful post on BAB today gives me a fresh appreciation of the many fabulous Americans I’ve “met” through my writing.

Now, with respect to the criminal Cho. Consider: the Korean wing of his family, an aunt to be specific, has called him, “that idiot.”? Koreans back home have a strong conservative streak. Saving face, personal pride and dignity are of the utmost importance to them. The move to the US probably severed the kind of family and community structures and value systems that might have sorted this misfit out early on in life.
Suddenly the university is not permitted to–and has no desire to–divulge Cho’s shenanigans to his family. The family is excluded. The progressives on campus consider his misbehavior a private “medical” affair. Back in Korea, the family would have handled the boy early on. They’d have realized he was severely limited —something our educational geniuses didn’t–and made clear to him what they’d tolerate from him; punishing his first sign of aggression, and placing him in a strict work environment–a dry cleaning business perhaps, not a college. A place where he’d do repetitive, calming, rote activity.
Yeah, the multicultural immigrant experience is not such a good thing for the immigrant who hails from adaptive, strong communities and families.
I was intrigued, but not surprised, to learn, moreover, that the incidence of mental health problems among Koreans is extremely low. Could that correlate with the fact that that culture views it as a stigma? Hence the more traditional Korean gets the message and doesn’t act out, as he would in the broader American society. Koreans remain well-functioning because there is no positive reinforcement associated with acting loopy.
In popular American culture, the mental disease construct has been so popularized and entrenched by the pseudo-experts that it is associated with rewards: attention, etc. To claim a mental disease is to be seen as good, virtuous, courageous, a hero struggling against all odds (all rubbish, of course).
