UPDATED: DISCLOSE, Or Else

Constitution, Elections, Free Speech

Coverage has been hard to come by today on the passing of the DISCLOSE Act, with the exception of WND.COM and Fox News. Older reports were carried on Hot Air, and Politico. Where the Act was briefly mentioned, it was only to gloat that its passing dealt a defeat to Republicans. Credit goes to the HuffPo for this report.

The official, twisted title: “H.R.5175 – DISCLOSE Act: Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections.”

[Amends] the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to prohibit foreign influence in Federal elections, to prohibit government contractors from making expenditures with respect to such elections, and to establish additional disclosure requirements with respect to spending in such elections, and for other purposes.

As our reader rightly points out, Mark Levin ATTEMPTS to explains how the Disclose Act threatens the First Amendment, but he and his guest fumble hopelessly.

UPDATE (June 26): Contra Levin, the Campaign for Liberty gets it. This from their newsletter:

“Earlier today, the House of Representatives shredded the First Amendment by voting 219-206 to pass H.R. 5175, the DISCLOSE Act.

View the roll call here.

As hard as it is to believe, they made the bill (which should really be called the Establishment Protection Act) even worse in the hours leading up to the vote by including more provisions to benefit their Big Labor pals and to obtain further details on those opposed to their powergrabs.

Thanks to the actions of Campaign for Liberty members and other freedom-minded activists across the country, the vote on H.R. 5175 came down to the wire and was much closer than expected. Your pressure reminded them that we are serious about holding our elected officials accountable for their actions.

Matter of fact, your calls made such an impact that Campaign for Liberty was even mentioned on the House floor during the debate!

This vote is by no means the end of the fight, and the battle to protect Americans’ right to free speech and to keep the federal government from gathering even more information about us now moves on to the Senate, where the bill faces many challenges.

There are several steps you can take to ensure the Establishment Protection Act is decisively defeated in the Senate.

First, contact your senators right away and make sure they know we have not given up on this critical issue. Click here to find their contact information and urge them to oppose H.R. 5175 and all other attempts to curb free speech.

Next, call the NRA headquarters at 1-800-672-3888 and their Legislative Action group at 1-800-392-8683 and tell them to drop their compromise and actively oppose H.R. 5175.

Without their special deal with House leaders, DISCLOSE may have been stopped in its tracks before ever reaching the House floor in the first place.

Finally, please forward this email to your family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers so we can spread the message about the threat posed by the Establishment Protection Act.

Campaign for Liberty has enjoyed more success than the statists ever imagined possible, and they would love nothing more than to shut us down by going after our donors.

Let’s show them that the Freedom movement will never back down.”

UPDATED: Geller: ‘Truth Is The New Hate Speech’

Bush, Canada, Free Speech, IMMIGRATION, Islam, Neoconservatism, Political Correctness, Propaganda

Remember BAB posted about one Mosab Yousef, known as “Son of Hamas”—also the title of his book? This bright, young Palestinian underwent, first, a religious conversion, and, in short order, a political one. Once he embraced Christianity, Yousef’s political change of heart followed, and he abandoned the easy, destructive, fashionable path of the Palestinians; stopped rooting for the savagery of his Hamasnik father and joined civilization (such as it is).

Now, as the irrepressible, anti-Islamization activist Pamela Geller reports, the Treason Class running this country is deporting Yousef back to his , the West Bank, where he’ll likely be finished off. (Yeah, Flotilla Fans: that’s what they do to dissenters in Muslim territories; and with the assent of the Muslim Street)

Slight correction to such Bush-supporters as is Ms. Geller (who has called Bush a good man), whose post may give the impression that the current president’s policies are not a seamless continuation of those of the last. Bush would have done nothing different—and was even more of an illegal immigration enthusiast than is Obama. As I like to say, Bush would have wrestled a crocodile for a criminal alien. And he did.

Granted, Obama has been holding back on the matter of immigration because he’s pacing himself. There is only so much destruction and deconstruction the man can achieve at once. In order to push through parts of his political agenda, Obama has to bide his time with respect to other aspects thereof.

Bush, on the other hand, denied us much needed social-security reform, but went full steam ahead with instigating invasions and welcoming invaders, the two sides of the same neoconservative coin.

“TRUTH IS THE NEW HATE SPEECH.” While on the topic of outrages: Ms. Geller reports that PayPal has revoked her account privileges, if I understand their complaint correctly, because they contend she runs a site promoting “hate.” They have, consequently, instructed Ms/ Geller to remove her PayPal button.

This repulsive conduct on the part of PayPal follows YouTube’s reprehensible, Muslim-driven (no doubt) removal of the “We Con The World” clip (hiding being copyright claims).

It seems that in the US, we don’t need a Canadian-style Human Rights kangaroo court; we have the private sector to enforce the tyranny minimized as political correctness.

The solution has to be obvious: credible competition to both PayPal and YouTube that will offer service sans the dhimmi, Acceptable-Use Policy constraints.

UPDATE (June 15): Ms. Geller, a formidable fighter, has beaten PayPal in its cowardly attempts to bully her into submission, and has brought the internet transaction company some bad, bad press.

Ms. Geller exults, “Paypal Called, Paypal Caved Paypal backed down. Excelsior!”

Always on the look for an ethical, as opposed ego-driven, voice on the Right, I’ve picked up in Ms. Geller’s latest battle something quite different—unheard of among the garden variety, ego-bound, conservative female commentators to whom we are subjected:

“I asked what recourse do smaller websites have? As this is my real concern. My soapbox is pretty big, but what about small blogs?”

Yes, should it come under PayPal attack, Barely a Blog would never be able to generate support among mainstream conservatives as Geller has. For thinking of voices such as ours, we thank Ms. Geller.

We also thank her for bringing to our awareness an alternative to PayPal, should they continue to hound truth and freedom:

“Needless to say, I am not going back,” writes Ms. Geller. “I told [PayPal woman] that, too. She wished I would reconsider. But, no. I am sticking with Gpal — the G stands for guns.”

Update II: Canadian Anti-Coulter Cretins Crave ‘Positive Space’

Ann Coulter, Canada, Christianity, Fascism, Free Speech, Individual Rights, Judaism & Jews, Law, Left-Liberalism And Progressivisim, Liberty, Political Philosophy

I’m so very pleased that Ann Coulter has, by necessity, turned her wrath on one of the most oppressive instruments in the Canadian state, the Human Rights apparatus. The Human Rights Commission, a Kangaroo court, operates outside the Canadian courts, affording its victims none of the defenses or due process the courts afford. For example, mens rea, or criminal intention: the absence of the intent to harm is no defense in this “court.” Neither is truth.

The apparatchiks of this machine have designated certain groups as protected species. Thus, the bedrock of western law, the rights of the individual, is turned on its head. Based on your membership in a group, you get to claim protected species rights—and acquire a lien on the property of other groups, who become prime potential offenders. The quasi-judicial Tribunal then acts on these definitions in the substance of its decisions. It’s all great for social cohesion.

And the designations keep growing. Last I covered the quasi-courts, it was deliberating as to whether to extend protection against discrimination on the grounds of “social conditions.” In other words, much like in the US, you do not posses absolute rights to your property. However, over and above the infraction against freedom of association and property that is American Civil Rights law, the Canadian kangaroo code would make it an offense to refuse to rent your apartment, for example, to a welfare recipient.

Devastating complaints have been launched against individuals whose speech the protected species dislike, often bankrupting and destroying innocent individuals guilty of exercising property rights or expressing politically incorrect thoughts.

In a truly free society, the kind we once enjoyed, one honors the right of the individual to associate and disassociate, invest and disinvest, speak and misspeak at will. Simple. So long as your mitts stop at my mug, you ought to be free to do as you wish. (Including ingesting drugs and ending one’s life, for vices are not crimes. “If for harming himself a man forfeits his liberty, then it can’t be said that he has dominion over his body. It implies that someone else—government—owns him.”) People ought to be arrested only for crimes they perpetrate against another’s person or property.

Particularly apt is Ann’s swipe, in “Oh Canada,” at the mob mentality and congenital stupidity issuing from the free-thinking Millennials (whom I’ve described at length in “Your Kids: Dumb, Difficult And Dispensable”):

the Ottawa University Student Federation met for seven and a half hours to hammer out a series of resolutions denouncing me. The resolutions included:

“Whereas Ann Coulter is a hateful woman;

“Whereas she has made hateful comments against GLBTQ, Muslims, Jews and women;

“Whereas she violates an unwritten code of ‘positive-space’;

“Be it resolved that the SFUO express its disapproval of having Ann Coulter speak at the University of Ottawa.”

At least the students didn’t waste seven and a half hours on something silly, like their studies.

Update I (March 25): Where do you think “The Silly Sex?” would land this writer were she to return to Canada? Or “Women Who Wed the Wrong Wahhabi”? Or “‘Obsession’ By Muhammad”?

Update II: Coulter has never called for the conversion of Jews, as Myron (and lefties) contends. I’ve long since “Disentangled [That] Coulter/Deutsch Dust-Up”:

Although some Christian denominations have watered it down, a general filament of the Christian faith is the belief that salvation is predicated on accepting Christ. If Coulter were more than a brash, bonny (if bony) babe, she’d have explained that doctrine: To get past the Pearly Gates, Christians believe one has to accept Christ.

“But is belief in ‘perfection’ or ‘completion’ through Jesus tantamount to hostility to Jews?” asked Gabriel Sanders of the Jewish daily “Forward.” And he replied, quoting Yaakov Ariel, a professor of religious studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a specialist in Jewish-Evangelical ties: “A conservative, Jesus-oriented faith doesn’t mean, in and of itself, that people are anti-Jewish. Some of the more favorable attitudes toward Jews have developed in Evangelical circles.”
