I spoke at the Mises Institute’s annual gathering in Bellevue, Washington, Saturday, September 14.
I was asked to address the dumbing down inherent in democracy. The title of my presentation was “How Democracy Made Us Dumb,” or “Democracy As Idiocracy.”
Indeed, the greatest thinkers (before Hans-Hermann Hoppe)—the Athenian philosophers—distrusted democracy. The Athenian thinkers held that democracy “distrusts ability and has a reverence for numbers over knowledge.” The Founders agreed.
Thinking in opposition to democracy is part of our heritage, yet you won’t hear a critique of democracy in mainstream circles, conservative or liberal.
Many thanks to Jeff Diest for his introduction—and for including me in this well-attended event. Liberty still flickers in Washington State.
The podcast is up. A YouTube is to follow.
UPDATE (9/30/019): YouTube of “How Democracy Made Us Dumb.”
NEW COLUMN IS “The Anatomy of A Twitter Blocking — My Own.” It’s on WND.COM and The Unz Review.
An excerpt:
TWICE HAVE the censors at Twitter kicked me off their anything-but-neutral platform.
When these arbiters of right and wrong periodically block my Twitter account, visitors to the site will be greeted with a stark warning:
“Caution. This account is temporary restricted.” The snowflakes will be forewarned of “some unusual activity on the account. Do you still want to view it?” Naturally, the worded choice offered—to view or not to view—ultimately doesn’t exist. I am told that when you click to avail yourself of the “choice,” my account is nowhere to be seen. Once blocked, you’re invisible.
The visual that assaults the eye is this one:
The screen shot was taken by a friend. For, when sent to the Twitter doghouse, one is typically barred from accessing Twitter at all, except for fleetingly seeing the notice, “Your account has been locked.”

Larry Elder, a great American, has shared with his many followers my Unz Review column, “How About Intra-Racial Reparations in South Africa?”
The excerpt Mr. Elder chose from “How About Intra-Racial Reparations in South Africa?” is:
“…white South Africans are told to accept their obligation to give up ancestral lands they are alleged to have stolen. Should not the relatives of cannibals who gobbled up their black brethren be held to the same standards?”—ilana mercer

This is quite nice, too.
Ilana Mercer is the hottest intellect out there.

But “she” is not a public person. Glad to assist the queen bee, aka President Ann Coulter, behind the scenes, as she rescues the country.
