America Is Moving Leftwards

We know the Democrats are rapidly radicalizing, but what about Republicans? What about the country as a whole?

Well, according to The Economist, “AMERICANS ARE more in favour of ‘big-government’ policies today than at any point in the last 68 years. That is the conclusion of James Stimson, a political scientist, who has analysed long-running polls from the Universities of Chicago and Michigan to come up with annual estimates of the ‘public mood.'”

The magazine blames—you guessed it—“Donald Trump’s presidency,” rather than demographic changes over the corresponding decades.

Mr Stimson estimates that the last time America was feeling this left-wing was in 1961, when the civil-rights movement was full-steam ahead and Alan Shepard became the first American to be launched into outer space.

Public opinion is contradictory: many more Americans describe themselves as conservative than as liberal; yet Americans prefer left-leaning policies to right-leaning ones, even when these are accompanied by the promise of higher taxes. Mr Stimson’s data show a steady leftward shift in Americans’ views on the scope of government since 1952. And according to data from the Policy Agendas Project, an academic research group, the public also holds views that are more tolerant than ever on social issues like same-sex marriage; worries more about the environment; and is more enthusiastic about immigration and giving a helping hand to African-Americans.

Samuel P. Huntington offered “a now-classic description of the military mind — conservative, realistic, and pessimistic about human nature.” Elsewhere in one of his books, Huntington mentions that the military was once, almost to a man, Republican.

No longer. And Mayor Pete Buttigieg is hardly exhibit A as to the progressive nature of the military. But he is a damn good one, for the military is reliably liberal.

“The military is government. The military works like government; is financed like government, and sports many of the same inherent malignancies of government. Like all government-run divisions and departments, the US military is manacled by multiculturalism, feminism and all manner of outré sexual politics, affirmative action, and political correctness that kills.”

In other words, the military’s impetus is liberal.

COLUMN: “Bernie’s Degeneracy: That’s Democracy For Ya” is now on Townhall.com.  An excerpt:

BERNIE SANDERS, the senator from Vermont, said he thinks “everyone should have the right to vote—even the Boston Marathon bomber … even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away and you say, ‘Well, that guy committed a terrible crime, not going to let him vote,’ you’re running down a slippery slope.”

Bernie is right about a “slippery slope.” But the befuddled Bernie is worried about the wrong slope.

Denying the vote to some and conferring it on others is not a “slippery slope.” It’s exercising good judgment.

Insisting that the vote in America belongs to everyone, irrespective: now that’s a slippery slope, down which the slide is well underway.

As it stands, there are almost no moral or ethical obligations attached to citizenship in our near-unfettered Democracy.

Multiculturalism means that you confer political privileges on many an individual whose illiberal practices run counter to, even undermine, the American political tradition.

Radical leaders across the U.S. quite seriously consider Illegal immigrants as candidates for the vote—and for every other financial benefit that comes from the work of American citizens.

The rights of all able-bodied idle individuals to an income derived from labor not their own: That, too, is a debate that has arisen in democracy, where the demos rules like a despot.

But then moral degeneracy is inherent in raw democracy. The best political thinkers, including America’s constitution-makers, warned a long time ago that mass, egalitarian society would thus degenerate.

What Bernie Sanders prescribes for the country—unconditional voting—is but an extension of “mass franchise,” which was feared by the greatest thinkers on Democracy. Prime Minister George Canning of Britain, for instance. …

Chris Christie: Another Effective Attack Dog Dismissed By Javanka

Quit calling prosecutors who colluded against Trump apolitical. They are political as hell.

That’s the paraphrased gist of Gov. Christ Christie’s delicious admonition to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, today.

Can’t locate the exact clip or quote, because MSNBC has a website designed for illiterate cretins. Big pictures, nada data.

Forget his ideological impurity, Chris Christie, with all his faults, is as quick as a whip and is a gifted orator. Christie can think on his feet, and uses his faculties to expose the workings of a blinded, willful, low-intelligence arrogant media.

If nothing else, Christie would have delighted and regaled us as Press Secretary Christie.

“Jared Kushner, the husband of Ivanka Trump and the son of the real estate developer Charles Kushner, a man [Christie] once sent to prison,” was behind the termination of Christie’s tenure in the Trump administration. (Let us start blaming the person who makes the final decision, not those who bend his ear.)

Another opportunity to kick ass lost by our president.
