The Republican Party's Campaign Of Co-optation

Check out this new production, “I want Your Money,” touted on Fox News. It opens with Stephen Moore, of the War street Journal, pronouncing the stimulus a hoax. But Moore is a member of America’s failed philosopher kings who has consistently failed to predict anything. This same snake-oil merchant was all for Keynesian tinkering before he turned against it, and then only on purely utilitarain grounds (“it hasn’t worked”).

Moore’s book before last was titled “Bullish on Bush: How the Ownership Society Is Making America Richer.” If that’s not an indictment, nothing is. “Bush’s bailout society” is an instantiation of the principles upon which “Bush’s ownership society” was founded: credit for those who are not creditworthy.

There are some nice Reagan quips in this trailer tease, though. Nice because they are rooted in rights, not in utility (what works for the hordes):

• There’s a word for redistributing the wealth, it’s called theft.
• We could say that they spend like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors because they are spending their own money (Moore would never talk openly about ownership).

Then Moore the moron pops up with this pearl: “It is fiscal child abuse,” the allusion being to spending for posterity.

Fuck the kids; I’m sick of them. I pay for their miseducation. They’re the reason my aspirin bottle has to be pried open with the jaws of life. Fuck ’em. From what I’ve seen they deserve to be sold into slavery. The state should not enslave me and mine. I don’t need “The kids” to justify my right to live free of subjugation.

The rest of the clip is crammed with Bush bitches and Newtered dogs superimposed upon the earnest Tea Party protest.

Clearly, this message is part of the Republican Party’s campaign of co-optation.

UPDATED: Tea Party Totals GOP Candidate

I know little about Christine O’Donnell (other than that she admires The Hildebeest), but she sure seems a sweetheart. She has just “defeated veteran politician Mike Castle for the Republican Senate nomination in Delaware.” The GOP has responded to the whipping of one of its crooked politicians with this throw down:

“Republican aides told Fox News Tuesday that the National Republican Senatorial Committee will not be funding O’Donnell’s general election campaign, leaving it up to Palin and the Tea Party Express to do the heavy lifting.”

Given GOP good will, why is O’Donnell already talking about cooperating with establishment Republicans “for the common good”?

Reaching across the aisle to get things done is a euphemism for relinquishing principles in favor of political expediency. As one hardcore tea partier said to Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, “the only time I want my representative to reach across the isle is to grab a Democrat by the throat.”

UPDATE: (Sept. 20): Lew Rockwell wonders whether Christine O’Donnell can be all bad since she is “hated by Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer, John Cornyn, the Club for Growth, and Dick Armey’s KochWorks.”

Alas, “she calls for murdering the unborn and everyone else in Iran, and is, in general, a foreign policy neocon.”

The Blair Third-Way Blur

How serious are Republican boosters about liberty? Tony Blair serious. Sean Hannity interviews Mr. Blair, and tries to get this consummate Third-Way politician to repeat the Hannity inanities, among which are the following catch phrases: We want a small government (translation: you call the state behemoth small when a Republican is at the helm), and a strong national defense (translated: defend the indefensible invasions so long as they are started by Republicans).

Republican economics: condemn the Keynesian voodoo, as you grope obscenely for the “stimulus packages,” and while rudely wanking your business buddies in full view of disgusted onlookers.

Blair is way cleverer. He re-branded “the Keynesian model” as a Third Way sort of kosher statism about which your host (support her, please!) wrote way back in … 2000, in the Calgary Herald column, “Third Way is Socialism’s New Bandwagon.”

To the request that he make a token grumble against Sean Hannity’s ostensible peeve, Blair replied:

“I happen to think in this case there’s a third way, which is a state that is strategic and empowering, where your welfare and public service policies are reformed and modernized from the 1940s.”

What a sweet molester is our Uncle Sam and his cousin across the pond.

Meet Mr. O. Moocher

Thief-in-chief “insists the nation can no longer afford tax breaks for the wealthy, while Republicans say any tax increase is a grave mistake.”

The “nation” can no longer afford YOU, Mr. O. Moocher.

“With a tax cut, the plundering class simply agrees to pilfer less. The notion that you must ‘pay for tax cuts,’ … is akin to a burglar promising to return the television he stole just as soon as he is in a better financial position.”

People who earn well are less equal under the “law”; their income is considered forfeit, up for grabs. For their part, Republicans are just repulsive power grabbers. What would happen if they actually stood up for Americans who earn more than average?

Is a man with earning power worth less than a man without? Apparently so, politically speaking, becasue he is a much maligned minority with no representation.
