Stephen Cohen, professor emeritus of Russian studies, history, and politics at New York University and Princeton University, to Tucker Carlson:

“I want my president to do what every other president has done. Meet with the head of the Kremlin to avoid an existential crisis—war—between the two nuclear superpowers. Sit with the other side and walk back the conflict. The Trump hunters, however, prefer trying to impeach Trump to averting nuclear disaster.

AND:

“Why the hostility to Russia AFTER the collapse of the Soviet Union?”

Why do Deep Staters dislike Putin, “president of post-Communist Russia, more than they disliked the leaders of communist Russia?”

I can partially answer that, Prof. Cohen: These people are so stupid and ignorant that they prefer to think of Russia as a socialist state, when it is politically nationalist and economically mixed. The rest of the answer owed—why the establishment hates Russia today, while it loved Russia of yesteryear—that’s more complicated.

Disgraced FBI official Peter Strzok rants that he had hoped “the American population would not elect somebody demonstrating such horrible, disgusting behavior.” But WE DID NOT ELECT YOU, Mr. Strzok.

Is Strzok the face of the youthful, progressive FBI? Agent Strzok is a smirking, smug, self-satisfied, cheating swamp creature. He can’t take responsibility for his own misconduct, no wonder Strzok blames … Russia for division in America.

Bear in mind: Strzok is no lowly official; he “rose to become the Deputy Assistant Director of the Counterintelligence Division, the second-highest position in that division.”

UPDATED (7/26): Liberals Celebrate The Demographic Deluge: America HAS BEEN irreparably TRANSFORMED, They Say

Mr. Trump is “now wringing the last drop of juice from his white-identity politics,” crows The Economist.

It’s “a short-term strategy … in an increasingly non-white America, even if he were a more ruthless demagogue than he is. Mr Trump’s dog-whistle on immigration may sustain his presidency; it will not interrupt how America is changing. That combination spells a long-term disaster for his party.”

These liberals are probably right about the demographic deluge into America being unstoppable, despite POTUS’s valiant attempts to delay the inevitable.

Sad.

UPDATE (8/13): The State Of Cuckservatism: Still Fawning Over Never-Trumper Ben Shapiro

The other day Ben Shapiro was asked (for some reason) to give comment on Fox News regarding the election of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, the female Barack Obama, as Rush Limbaugh calls her. Cortez, a hard-core socialist, “won the Democratic primary in New York’s 14th congressional district.”

As is typical of his ideological ilk, all Ben could muster against socialism was that it “doesn’t work.” Not a word about the rights-violating underpinnings of socialism, which make it both wicked AND an economic wrecking ball.

For E-Letter Conservatives (establishmentarians), it all boils down to pragmatism, never principle. Put it this way, if socialism worked—brutal rights-violations and all—cons like Ben would have a tough time arguing against it.

It’s not enough that he’s wrong all the time; the fact that Shapiro might vote for Trump in 2020 has made news. It’s hard not to despair. Sighs Gateway Pundit: “Some Things Never Change… #NeverTrumper Ben Shapiro Argues the Future of Republican Party is Anti-Trump.”

This, as the Europeans move in Trump’s direction.

Says Prof. Paul Gottfried (in an e-mail chat among Old Rightists):

Why the Hell should people on the Right be rejoicing that Ben [Shapiro] and Bill [Maher] love each other? And look how reasonable Ben Shapiro of Fox-news fame is! He favors impeaching Trump if he removes Rosenstein.
What is shocking is not that Shapiro loathes and fears the Right. It’s that he’s the poster boy for the conservative movement. And it’s not his fault. At least partly because the conservative movement doesn’t provide much in the way of conservative discourse. In Austria, Hungary, Italy, etc. there is a serious intellectual Right that enjoys political influence.

Remarks Dr. Clyde Wilson, “This is because ‘the conservative movement’ is based in the Republican party, which eschews (and always has) all ideas not involved in money—or as Mel Bradford put it—they are liberal about everything except money. Or as Rev. Mr. Dabney observed a century and a half ago, Northern conservatives have never conserved anything.”
